Marlins: Sometimes You Need To Laugh At Yourself

I don’t even want to talk about the Marlins’ woes right now. Instead, I shall do it through depressing, angry, or silly music.

Name The Marlins Home Run Sculpture

The guys over at the Palm Beach Post have named the Marlins home run sculpture “Longball Lagoon”. Not bad. I like it very much. It makes me think of the Mermaid Lagoon in Peter Pan.

I am not very good at making up creative and witty names, so I can’t think of anything clever to name the sculpture. I keep thinking of something like “Marlins on LSD”, but that’s not very appropriate.

Now put your creative hats on and give me your best names for the sculpture. The best one gets a pat on the back.

We Have A Meme, Marlins Fans

Yep, it’s an off day for the Marlins. So while you are sitting at home and bored (No Panthers or Heat either), why not laugh at this poor guy’s expense?

I stumbled upon these memes and thought they were pretty funny. Poor guy didn’t know what he was getting into when he posed like that for the picture.

I totally LOL’d, especially at the following photos.

Oh and the dude in the back makes the picture even funnier.

Thank You, Pudge, For Being A Marlin

Ivan Rodriguez wasn’t a Marlin for a long time. However, his time here is special because he was a huge part for the Marlins’ World Series win in 2003.

Pudge will be retiring on Monday, April 23rd as a Texas Ranger. One of my favorite Marlins, I felt the need to honor him with photos of him during his time here.

The Physics Of Marlins Park

marlins, marlins park, marlins ballpark, miami marlinsI am sure you have thought about the differences between Sun Life Stadium and Marlins Park as far as home runs go.

I know it has only been two games so far, but it seems like we won’t be seeing too many home runs at the new park.

During last night’s game, there were many close calls. Only one home run occured, and that was by J.D. Martinez of the Houston Astros. It barely landed in the Clevelander.

Luckily, the Marlins won 5-4 thanks to Gaby Sanchez and his double to let Chris Coghlan score.

It Could’ve Been Worse For The Marlins

If you still aren’t a fan of the current Marlins logo, just think that it could’ve been worse. The following is what, according to this article, was could’ve been our logo. The logo went through six different phases before they decided on the current one. I think they did the right choice.

Marlins Lay An Egg Against Phillies

Marlins lose 7-1 against the Phillies. Josh Johnson had another rough start. It makes me wonder if he is hurt again. He’s just not himself.

Marlins: Ozzie Suspended, Apologizes Again

The Marlins took action on Tuesday against manager, Ozzie Guillen, and his comments about Fidel Castro. Ozzie has been suspended for 5 games. He also apologized publicly in front of the media while people demonstrated outside.

However, is this enough for the Cuban community to forgive Guillen for the words he said? I don’t think it’s even close.

Fans and celebrities alike have taken to Twitter to either defend Ozzie or trash him. For example, Gaby Sanchez, commented to Joe Capozzi from The Palm Beach Post, “Ozzie was very sincere in his apology. He definitely looked very sincere to me. We just have to move forward now.”

Ozzie said in spanish during his press conference, “I’m here to apologize with my heart in my hand, to ask for forgiveness from those I have hurt directly or indirectly.” I want to get back to baseball as soon as possible. I am pretty upset that the feeling of excitement around the city about the team is now gone due to Ozzie not thinking before speaking.

Miami mayor, Tomas Regalado said he accepts Ozzie’s apology. Now let’s see how long it takes for everyone else to do the same… if ever.

You Done Goofed Up, Ozzie

By: Jose Torres

Jose is my best friend and fellow Marlins fan. He was born in Puerto Rico and lives in Miami. I introduce him to you with his first post on “A Fishy Situation”. By the way, he helped me pick out this blog’s name.

Here is his take on the whole Ozzie Guillen hoopla.

There have been many dumb things said in sports. From goofs to just outright stupid, we all know athletes and coaches know how to stick their proverbial “foots in their mouths.” While most of the time, these quotes go un-noticed or are quickly forgotten, some have a way of sticking around. Such is the case for Miami Marlins manager Oswaldo Jose Guillen, who this past weekend, said one of the worst things one could say, especially managing in MIAMI. “I Love Fidel Castro.” Oh boy.

Marlins: Ozzie Being Ozzie

All day today I have been hearing Ozzie Guillen this, Ozzie Guillen that. Yes, the Marlins manager said some stupid things when he said he “respected Fidel Castro”. Open mouth insert foot. As a Cuban-American living in Miami, I know that these kinds of comments get people riled up around here. I also know that sometimes Ozzie tends to say stupid things before thinking about it.

I do understand that Cubans feel offended by his comment and why. He should have never said it. But again, Ozzie doesn’t seem to think about what he is trying to say and that’s when he gets himself in hot water. That’s why I don’t take what he says personally.

I also feel that local media, especially Cuban talk radio, are taking this way overboard. Ozzie apologized. He will apologize again tomorrow, Tuesday, before the public back here in Miami. Face to face. I believe Ozzie. He is doing the right thing by speaking to the media and fans tomorrow in person. I hope that this whole things goes away soon so we can get back to being excited about baseball.
