Is New Era Messing With The “New Era”?

Baseball is the only sport where the opponent is wearing a flexible head covering.  Some people call these caps, other hats, but regardless they are highly scrutinized.

Baseball hats give normal citizens the opportunity to look the part without ever touching a baseball and has become a multi billion dollar industry now that all sports teams want their logo on a cap.

Because appearance is one of the number one qualities that the United States considers when talking sports, MLB players change their hats throughout preparing for a game day.

Every four years or so Major League changes the batting practice hat design.

Check out what the Detroit Tigers will be wearing this season while they are taking batting practice.

Then & Now: Miguel Cabrera

Miguel Cabrera has had one of the most up and down seasons, on a personal level, as any other Detroit Tiger.

This season Cabrera put all of that aside and became the American League MVP and also won a little award called the Triple Crown.

Smell ya later RUGBURN

First the Detroit Tigers let Brandon Inge go, and now Ryan Raburn?

Who on earth are Tigers fans going to blame for every game that did not go the Tigers way?

Raburn had a great spring training this season and everyone thought there might be a turn around, but then RUGBURN turned around and made sure fans still had someone to blame.

Time will tell if Raburn gets picked up by any teams during the off season, but I think he will have a hard time explaining a .91 batting average at some points during the season.

Warming up, about the only thing Raburn is good at.

Tigers Rookie of the Year

Tigers need to hold onto Berry for his speed and enthusiasm.

Quintin Berry beat out some of the Detroit Tigers phenomenal rookies this year to win the team’s Rookie of the Year honors.

Whether he carried the rookie’s backpack the best with the most grace is undetermined.

27-year-old Berry, whose birthday is tomorrow, grew up in San Diego California and brought the Detroit Tigers a much needed spark this season.

In early May Berry was added to the 25-man roster and made his debut the same day.

Berry was replacing the injured Austin Jackson and received his first MLB hit with a bunt double.

Berry became the first Detroit Tigers player since 1918 to hit safely in his first six games as a Tiger.

Hopefully Berry will be on the 25-man roster next season with the outfield ever changing for the Detroit Tigers with the addition of Torii Hunter.

Then & Now: Justin Verlander

Everyone including Kate Upton knows that Justin Verlander is not missing much in the looks department, but all of his recent awards do not hurt either.

Verlander lost by one vote in the 2012 AL CY Young award race to David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sappy Sunday: Gerald Laird

This weeks Sappy Sunday focus is on Gerald Laird (LARD) who once again is no longer with the Detroit Tigers.

Laird accepted a two-year deal with the Atlanta Braves and was with the Detroit Tigers during the 2009, 2010 and 2012 seasons.

It was fun to once again to be able to chant LARD, LARD, LARD!  All good things must come to an end unfortunately.

Good luck in the ATL Laird!

Cabrera’s Career Changed Faster Than His Hair

Every single award that Miguel Cabrera has come away with this season has been warranted, especially if you think about all of the changes that have happened in one year for Miggy.

After a controversial 2011  season with all of Miguel Cabrera’s off season issues, Dave Dombrowski and the Detroit Tigers stirred up Cabrera’s world again signing Prince Fielder.

Cabrera would now move over to third base with no argument and a new hairstyle, where he would quickly break a bone in his face under his eye socket.

2012 was off to a rough start.

Cabrera’s season soon started to turn to a memorable one when he collected his 1,000th RBI.  He is one of the few players in league history to reach this plateau before their 30th birthday.

Soon it was half way through the season and Cabrera was voted into the All-Star game as a reserve with the Detroit Tigers far behind in the AL Central at the break.

Cabrera and Verlander Keep Things Interesting

Two of my favorite athletes of all time.

Yay for the off season!

Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander are finalist for awards and this is kind of cushioning the blow from being swept in the World Series.

Verlander is a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award along with David Price, and his best friend Jered Weaver.

While Verlander had an medicore season, he did finish semi strong to lead the American League in strikeouts(239)  and innings pitched (238 1/3).

I see David Price winning the AL Cy Young this season with his 20-win season.

Miguel Cabrera is a finalist for the 2012 American League Most Valuable Player Awards alongside Adrian Beltre, Robinson Cano, Josh Hamilton, Mike Trout .

If Miguel Cabrera does not win the AL MVP something is backwards.  Cabrera captured the Triple Crown for the first time since 1967 and helped bring the Detroit Tigers to the World Series.

The results will be next week on the MLB Network, stay tuned.

Election Day 2012

I won’t tell you to vote or not vote.  I won’t tell you to do anything, partially because that’s what candidates have been preaching for the past year.

Today is the 2012 election, DO WHAT YOU WANT, but keep an eye out for some Detroit Tigers on Twitter.
