United States

The defending champions started the defence in Group F against Sweden, Chile and Thailand. They progressed through with maximum points, whilst also scoring 18 goals and not conceding a goal. This started with a 13-0 victory over Thailand, in which they produced 40 shots over the 90 minutes. The United States then followed this up with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Chile, with Chile failing to produce a single shot on target. The final game in the group saw them beat Sweden 2-0 in another impressive display.

The United States then faced Spain in the round of 16, in what turned out to be a very close encounter with both sides failing to create many clear cut chances. The U.S won the game 2-1 as Megan Rapinoe scored twice from the spot. This meant they were drawn against hosts France in the quarter finals. This was expected to be a close game as both sides had started as the pre-tournament favourites. This turned out to be the case with the home side controlling the possession and creating the most chances. Despite this the United States won the game 2-1, with France picking up a late consolation goal.

The semi-final game with England as mentioned turned out to be a fantastic game as the United States progressed through 2-1, with England missing a late penalty and having a goal ruled out due to VAR.
