Since starting his managerial career with Mainz 05 at the start of the millennium, Jürgen Klopp has become one of the best managers in world football. After a 15 year playing career, Klopp became the manager of Mainz 05 in February 2001 following the sacking of EckhardKrautzun. The club were struggling at the time when the former defender took the job, but Klopp revitalised the team and ended up leading them to promotion in the 2003-04 season. During his seven years at the club, Klopp also led the team to the first round of the UEFA Cup before being relegated in 2007.
It was his success with Mainz that led him to be approached for the Borussia Dortmund job in 2008, which he accepted. It was during his time at Dortmund where Klopp achieved the majority of his success, winning the Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup twice, as well as the DFB-Pokal once. His team also reached the Champions League final in the 2012-13 season, but were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Bayern Munich thanks to a 89th minute goal from Arjen Robben. Klopp left the club in 2015 following seven seasons at the club.
The German then joined Liverpool in October 2015, where he has remained ever since.
Although Klopp has failed to win a trophy since joining the Merseyside club, he has managed to reach the final of the EFL Cup, Europa League and Champions League. Their start to the season this year suggests that a trophy could finally be on the horizon for Klopp and his team, but we’ll have to wait and see. As well as his success, Klopp has often made headlines for his antics on the touchline and amusing quotes. At the start of the season, Klopp made headlines once again when he compared his Liverpool side to Rocky Balboa, and Manchester City to Ivan Drago. To an outsider this might seem odd, but it isn’t the weirdest thing that Klopp has said.
