Weight Watchers: Loving Fitness DVDs

Current Weight:  225.8 lbs

Total Weight-loss:  8.6 lbs

I blame the Super Bowl.

Actually, I’m down 1.5 lbs since last week (which is awesome), so I should be happy.  I just wasn’t feeling it last week…particularly the last few days.  (Don’t worry, I’m re-motivated this week.)

Like I said last week, my new thing for February is to really focus on my workouts.  The past week, I’ve been focusing on getting more weight training into my routine of yoga and walking.

Since I don’t belong to a gym, I rely heavily on workout DVDs.  My two favorites are One-On-One Training with Jackie and Jillian Michaels: 30 Day Shred.

I love these two in particular because they’re short.  Jackie Werner’s video has 3 different 20-minute workouts, each focusing on a different area of the body: upper body, lower body and core.  Jillian Michaels’ video has 3 different, total-body workouts, ranging from beginners to advanced.  Since they only take up 20 minutes, I have a VERY hard time talking myself out of doing them.  There’s ALWAYS time to squeeze in a 20 minute workout.

Another reason I love these DVDs?  They ease me into more intense workouts when it’s been awhile since I’ve picked up those hand weights.  That’s not to say that these workouts aren’t intense (they certainly are), but they aren’t as intense as something like the P90X workouts, and not nearly as long.  When I am in better shape than I am now, I like to couple one of these workouts with a run or do a DVD in the morning before work and yoga after work.

I’m starting to find that my pants are getting a bit looser which is quite exciting.  I’m also finding that my body is getting stronger (I particularly notice this during my yoga classes).  Personally, when I’m in a great workout routine, I tend to lose weight without even trying really.  Let’s hope this pattern continues (except I’m obviously trying).

Again, I’m still struggling to find a great method for allotting points to my workouts.   I’ve found that with both of these workouts, I’m averaging about 125 – 150 calories burned per 10 minutes, so I estimate about 1 point per 10 minutes?  Again, not sure if this is totally accurate, but I guess until I stop losing, I’ll continue with this plan.

How did everyone else do this past week?

My wife and I have the Jillian DVD. It kills me, so I figure it’s gotta do me some good.

Maintained this week, which is what I need to do as a Lifetime Member. Looking forward to spring so I can start tossing BP to the kids.

So, one of the biggest things I miss about law school is the free gym classes (and having enough control over my schedule to make it to them), so this is brilliant! I netflixed One-On-One Training with Jackie, and now I’m definitely buying it, and the Jillian DVD is in my queue! Thanks for the tip!
