‘Vintage’ Steel Workouts On DVD

Jane Fonda released her first exercise tape, Workout, in 1982. With that release, Fonda popularized the at-home workout video.

While I am unable to find Fonda’s earliest releases on DVD, there are plenty of ‘classic’ at-home workouts available.

The iconic Buns of Steel workout is now on DVD. This is a 50-minute workout that focuses on toning the lower body. This workout was dated when I first tried it in the 90s, but plenty of exercisers are rediscovering their love for this tape.

I much preferred the “Steel” videos that featured Tamilee Webb of the 1990s. The Classic Buns of Steel Volume 1 and Volume 2  each feature three former VHS tapes on a single DVD. Before there were Jillian Michaels’ videos to love to hate, Webb was offering at-home exercisers something to scream at the TV about. I was sure Webb hated me because they were so tough. Webb’s bangs aren’t as big as some seen in the original Buns of Steel, but I think she gives more attention to proper form.

The DVDs are each running around $20, which is a little pricey for workouts over a decade old. But, if you can catch them on sale or have really, really, really fond memories of working out in leg warmers–go for it!
