I'm a geek. Watch me try to run. No, I will not be running in a Slave Leia cosplay. Sorry.
When I was a little kid, I loved running. It was a nice way to just unwind and get all that energy out. I even ran 5Ks as a kid – once in 4th grade and once in 7th.
Something changed in between then and now, and I haven’t really been running much since. It sucks, because I used to really enjoy it. I ended up where I am now – really skinny, bony even (seriously, chair massagers hurt my back) but quite out of shape. I’m not sure what compelled me to do this, but when I was watching the New York City Marathon back in November with my family I felt inspired again and boldly told everyone I was going to get in shape for my town’s annual Memorial Day run. We do a 10K, a 5K, speed miles and a one-mile Fun Run. I decided to shoot for the 5K again, like I had when I was a kid.
The following posts written by me will be my captain’s log of sorts as I work on getting myself back into shape for the Memorial Day run in my hometown in New Jersey. If all goes well, I’ll probably keep running afterwards and finding various geeky ways to motivate myself. And by ‘geeky,’ I don’t mean ‘quirky’ or ‘odd.’ I like manga/anime, history and Star Wars. I’m a true blue geek girl. That’s why I’ve titled my segments on this site ‘See Nerd Run.’
Now let’s just pretend I’m jogging through the forests of Endor as I train and hope for the best.
