Time for Angelo To Go?

Thumbs up to Jerry Angelo's possible retirement!

If you’re a Bears fan, you probably answered that question with a resounding “YES.”  General Manager Jerry Angelo has been under heavy pressure in Chicago lately, and it appears that the pressure may finally be getting under his skin.

A report from NFL Network Insider Jason La Canfora revealed that Angelo may retire during the offseason.  Before you go and do a happy dance around the room, keep in mind that his decision will supposedly depend on the outcome of the season according to Angelo’s fellow NFL general managers and executives.

If Angelo is weighing his options based on whether the Bears end the 2011 season on a high note, then we can probably kiss him goodbye (or just kick him out the door forcefully, whichever you prefer).  With the team literally falling apart due to injuries, playoff hopes are dimming quickly.

But if a Christmas miracle brings a Super Bowl to Chicago, there’s still a possibility that Angelo will walk away.  The fact that the GM added close associate Tim Ruskell to the front office last year could foreshadow that Ruskell may be next in line to fill Angelo’s position.

All signs point toward retirement for Jerry Angelo at the moment.  But as Bears fans, we have been conditioned to expect the unexpected.
