Let me start with a quote from a great man and a great NFL coach, Mike Tomlin:
“We’re not looking to make excuses. Excuses are tools of the incompetent. I believe we’ve got a competent football team. The ones that are healthy will prepare, will step into the stadium and the level of expectation will be the same.”
Yes, I know this is a post about the Bears loss and not Mr. Tomlin’s quotes, but I feel that the quote works just as well in this situation.
I will not make any excuse for this loss. These players are professionals, and let me say this straight- a good defense means nothing when you cannot get anything going on offense.
Jason Campbell has been getting beat up all night, not saying this is unusual for Jay at all, but when you know the situation your team is in going into San Francisco, you should know that everyone else needs to step up accordingly. Maybe this will make everyone appreciate Jay a little more- it takes a special kind of talent to play behind a crappy offensive line and get anything done.
The defense also failed to show up tonight. Lacking their game changing defense that has shown trustworthy throughout the year. They failed to cover a few great runs on the Niners side, and gave Kaepernick a great game and 249 yards of offense in the first half, compared to the Bears 35.
In addition, Lovie, I love you, but you were out coached by Harbaugh, loud and clear. Tice’s play calling and offensive strategy continues to flabbergast me week after week. The Bears and their coaching staff need to make the appropriate adjustments as the game develops. They cannot sit back and expect their team to get into the swing of the plan presented when they are getting out performed.
The Bears were not prepared for this match up tonight and seemed to lack any sense of desire to play the game they have played all season long. Further thoughts on this to be dissected tomorrow. But for now just know, that there is a lot of work to do.
