Dear Hockey Gods.
I guess we had this coming.
After 6 games of simply scraping by and holding on, we come out of this road trip with first degree burns in very unpleasant places.
…That was supposed to be funny.
But enough about that, let’s talk about the game.
Lining Up – Fun Facts
- Mikka Kiprusoff won his 301st game tonight. He hit 300 in career wins against the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 8th 2012. He was honoured with a Silver Hockey Stick before the start of the game. Congratulations Mikka Kiprusoff!!
- Roberto Luongo got the start tonight. He has not lost a game in regulation time for February.
- The lineup for our Vancouver Canucks remained the same. Andrew Alberts would play in place of Keith Ballard again.
First Period – Fun Facts
- I’d say this period was largely uneventful but… Oh.
- Mike Duco and Lance Bouma decided that they would square off against one another, 6 minutes and 33 seconds or so in. (Go Duco!)
- LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. That is all.
- Michael Cammallari would eventually score, giving the Flames a 1-0 lead over the Vancouver Canucks.
Second Period – Fun Facts
- The Flames would score again, this time, courtesy of Roman Horak, giving the Flames a 2-0 lead.
- Andrew Alberts got into a little scrap with Flames forward Mikael Backlund and was eventually sent off to the penalty box for roughing.
- There was plenty more LUUUUUing in this period, though it was not as loud as in the first period.
- …Post. The posts and crossbars have not been our friend lately. I can’t remember who had tried to score, only that it had hit the post and that I was upset that it had not gone in.
- And there is again another fight. This time, Andrew Alberts goes up against Tim Jackman. (Go Alby Go!)
- I have Cody Hedgehog in capital letters strewn across my notes.
- …
- Cody Hodgson did score, with the assists to Mike Duco and Alex Edler. The period would end 2-1, in favor of the Flames.
Da Turd Period – Fun Facts
- This was also a rather uneventful period.
- David Booth would eventually score to tie the game, apples to Dan Hamhuis.
- Captain Henrik Sedin had a very nice chance to score, only to have Mikka Kiprusoff make a VERY nice save.
- Flames Captain Jarome Iginla would get a breakaway, but any chance of him scoring was stopped by LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
- The efforts made by both goalies, would force this game to overtime.
Overtime – Fun Facts
- This particular overtime would see itself be played 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 respectively. Both teams would hold out and t hus we went to a shootout.
