No more clown questions, please

Bryce Harper doesn’t have time for clown questions.

When athletes do their post game interviews and they’re asked a question they’d prefer not to answer, a lot of them will gracefully divert around the question, decline it, or ignore it entirely.

But not if you’re Bryce Harper.

After Tuesday’s game in Toronto, one Toronto media member asked Harper if he would have a Canadian beer to celebrate his monster home run. Harper, who is 19, is legally able to drink in Canada but not the US. Even after the Nationals PR shut down the question, Harper had a response of his own.

“That’s a clown question, bro.”

Yes, the Twitter world has already seized Harper’s latest piece of quote gold. And yes, before you ask any clown questions, there are already several shirts of it.

Also, Ian Desmond thinks DC needs some of their own traditions. (Seeing as that one of Baltimore’s is shouting “O” during the National Anthem.)

Last night, Desmond took to Twitter to pitch his idea to fans. Will it work? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when the next home stand begins.

Nats Sweep Jays, Win 6th Straight

Moore had 2 HR and 5 RBI today against the Blue Jays

The Nats busted out the brooms in Toronto this afternoon, sweeping the Blue Jays and continuing their dominance in interleague play against the AL East.  They are now 15 games over .500 and have a 4 game lead in the NL East.

There are many reasons the Nats are clicking right now.  Starting pitching continues to be superb of course, but what has made the difference is the offense.

Remember how everyone hated Bryce Harper because he ran his mouth without backing it up? Well he has spent the last few weeks backing it up.  His average is over .300 and while he isn’t hitting home runs every day, he has been more consistent than many of the veterans at the plate.

While the return of Michael Morse helped, what made the difference in Toronto was rookie play.  Between Harper, Steve Lombardozzi, and Tyler Moore, the newest Nats went 13-30 with a walk, 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 7 runs scored and 7 RBI.

Still a Chief, Even Through Tragedy

Cordero had 113 saves in three full seasons with the Nationals

He was the original closer.  Chants of “Chief! Chief! Chief!” could be heard echoing throughout RFK Stadium as Chad “Chief” Cordero saved game after game for the Nationals for three years.  He was one of the original players for the franchise after they moved to Washington, helping the team to their best record to date at .500.

His shoulder eventually gave out after surgery in 2008, and the Nats let him go.  He among the very first fan favorites in DC, and his 47 saves in the inaugural 2005 season led the major leagues.  He was truly treasured during his stay in the nation’s Capital.

In December, the Corderos suffered an unthinkable tragedy: their daughter Tehya, just shy of three months old, passed away of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome while in the care of Chad’s parents.
