Nats Take Arizona
Sure, there was a game today. But it wasn’t any fun, so we’re going to do what is right for the holiday and forget any of it ever happened. Instead we shall harp on the one event every fan of every sport harps on…that’s right, All-Star Game rosters were announced today!
A while back, we did a post about which Nats had the best chance of getting the call to Arizona. Well, the one guy who was invited was off that radar. Congratulations Tyler Clippard!
Clippard’s numbers have been very impressive this year with a 1.96 ERA in 46 innings pitched throughout 37 games. While he has failed to capitalize on any of his four save opportunities in 2011, he’s only allowed 10 earned runs (7 of them home runs) and has a 0.87 WHIP.
Usually this would mean that was it for the Nats representation, but alas, there is hope this year! Michael Morse is in the final voting to get in. Go to MLB.com and VOTE VOTE VOTE!
This is America, so what do we do after congratulating the winners? On to the Snubs!
Danny Espinosa: statistically the best second baseman in the National League AND he’s a rookie. No dice.
Drew Storen: a bit more of a longshot, but still deserving. And since I’m basically the All-Star Game electing committee or however this convoluted system works, Drew, you’re on the team. I say so.
And we will end with…Derek Jeter at starting shortstop. Oh, my ribs…
With the All-Star Game fast approaching, it’s that time when we get to look forward to half our team going to play in a game that barely matters for anything as the best of the best take each other on for home field advantage in the World Series! Wait, we’re talking about the Nats and not the Yankees…right.
