Nats Trade Deadline Live Blog and Open Thread

The Nationals are in an unusual spot at this years deadline: they are in first.

A bat to help solidify the offense and a starting pitcher to fill in when Stephen Strasburg is shut down would be good pickups, but there is no move that the Nats just HAVE to make before the trade deadline.

What do you think will happen? Will the Nats pick up a rental or two for the push? Who should the target? What are the latest rumors? Discuss in the comments!

UPDATE10:50am
CSNChicago is reporting that the Nationals are not in the running for Ryan Dempster. Good, as they would likely have to give up too much for a player they likely won’t need next yer anyway in the area the team is its strongest.

The word seems to be that the Nats chatter is relatively quiet. They know that they don’t need to go crazy being in first place, but it wouldn’t hurt them to go after some veterans with playoff experience to pass on to the kids.

DISCUSSION: One Response

Agree that a veteran presence would be nice. But this isn’t a team with too many holes.

I’m watching more with the hopes that Atlanta doesn’t improve to much.

As an also-Cubs fan, Reed Johnson and Pat Maholm don’t exactly strike fear.
