So You Want To Be One Of The Nationals’ Racing Presidents…

Ever wonder if you have what it takes to be a Racing President? Ever made your own paper mache oversized head, just to see what it would feel like? Well, all that practice will sure come in handy during the Nationals’ Racing Presidents tryouts next month!

Not just anyone can be a cornerstone mascot for the third best team in the division!

The candidates are put through incredible trials and tests to earn the honor of being one of our Presidents, and tryouts are just around the corner.

To participate in the tryouts, you first have to meet some requirements:

  1.   Measure between 5’7” and 6’6” in height
  2.   Be at least 18 years old
  3.   Be able to run from center field to home plate in 40 seconds (approximately 200 yards)
  4.   Be able to wear a costume weighing approximately 45 lbs for several hours
  5.   Be available for at least 35 Nationals home games

If you fill all of those requirements, then your journey is set to begin. Submit your cover letter, resume, and photo to entertainment@nationals.com.  You will then be contacted with six mascot-related questions.  I assume these are along the lines of “How much can your neck support?” and “Are you frightened of small children?”

The lucky few will be invited to Nats Park on February 18th for a formal tryout.  This is where the fun REALLY begins, as candidates will participate in a 40 yard dash, freestyle dance, and run two Presidents’ Races from center field to the home dugout.

Start practicing kids, Spring Training is right around the corner!
