There are few magicians in professional sports who are able to do so many indecent things while still getting people to love them again. Nyjer Morgan is one of those players.
His flashes of brilliance on the field (like last night, when his play was decisive in the Brewers’ victory over the Phillies) make everyone forget how inept at the plate he can really be. It makes everyone forget about the time a ball bounce off the top of his glove, and he began throwing a tantrum, thinking it went over the wall. It didn’t, and Morgan’s delay in action caused the batter to hit the rare inside-the-park homerun.
Morgan drops a couple of loveable F-bombs on live television, and everyone jumps back on the bandwagon. They forget that this is the same guy who charged the mound for no reason, and flipped off fans as he stomped off the field more than a few times.
We understand; T-Plush is an endearing character. And when he first joined the Nationals, we were among his many fans. His off the field antics were mostly innocent shenanigans that were entertaining, something that often gets snuffed out under the media pressure of professional sports.
However, Morgan has since proven that his shenanigans are more of the evil variety, as he is a loose cannon who needs to be reeled in. When he has crazy in his eyes, it’s scary.
But F-bombs are funny, so everyone loves him once again this morning.
