Twitter Weighs In On The Kendrick Extension
This morning, I was having a great time writing about the fact that spring is here, when, with one little tweet everything changed.
Phillies announce 2 year 7.5 mill deal w pitcher Kyle Kendrick
— Jim Salisbury (@JSalisburyCSN) February 19, 2012
That’s when the fun began. Starting with my response: (I also added some of my own anecdotes)
WHY??????? RT @JSalisburyCSN: Phillies announce 2 year 7.5 mill deal w pitcher Kyle Kendrick
— Karilee Jeantet (@kjeantet) February 19, 2012
BREAKING NEWS: Kyle Kendrick is insanely overpaid.
— Tony (@tonyisdynamic) February 19, 2012
Oh an extension for Kyle Kendrick? Awesome!/sarcasm
— Stephen (@GalloSays) February 19, 2012
Amaro knows that baseball players can’t hold out, right? “@magelb: Phillies have signed Kyle Kendrick to a two-year, $7.5 million deal.” — Dash Treyhorn (@DashTreyhorn) February 19, 2012
@DashTreyhorn @magelb WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????
— Matthew Brown (@MatthewBrown914) February 19, 2012
Matthew Brown and I are completely on the same page.
Seriously, can’t we just put a pitching tee… we would get the same results #Kendrick
— Karilee Jeantet (@kjeantet) February 19, 2012
Um… what? RT @ToddZolecki The Phillies and Kyle Kendrick have agreed on a two-year, $7.5 million contract extension.
— John Stolnis (@FelskeFiles) February 19, 2012
Kendrick is like a tenth of the pitcher Hamels is. Using that logic, Cole’s contract should exceed $35MM annually.
— Dash Treyhorn (@DashTreyhorn) February 19, 2012
Lots of truth there. Luckily, no one gets paid those amounts.
“Siri, how do I piss off Phillies fans?” – Ruben Amaro this morning
— Stephen (@GalloSays) February 19, 2012
One of my favorite tweets of the day.
If you’re having a bad day, just remember: Kyle Kendrick has more money than you’ll ever make in your lifetime
— Zoo With Roy (@zoowithroy) February 19, 2012
Another fun game is to divide 7,500,000 by your salary, then punch yourself that many times
— Zoo With Roy (@zoowithroy) February 19, 2012
Well thanks for that positive outlook there Penguin!
Two key words from Ruben on the KK deal: “cost certainty.” Avoids a bigger raise in arbitration in ’13.
— David Hale (@DavidHaleTNJ) February 19, 2012
Amaro was aware he didn’t HAVE to have Kendrick under contract in 2013, right? Could have had REAL cost certainty by releasing him.
— John Stolnis (@FelskeFiles) February 19, 2012
I think he missed that part of GM School John.
Asked Ruben Amaro if Phillies gave Kyle Kendrick a no trade clause to Japan: “No, we did not. But we could still send him there.(Ha-ha)”
— Dave Brown (@AnswerDave) February 19, 2012
Source: Yomiuri Giants dispute Kyle Kendrick contract, saying Phillies were supposed to finalize the Kobayashi-deal as two sides had agreed.
— Jim Salisbury (@JSaIisburyCSN) February 19, 2012
Ok, I need to interrupt the currently scheduled KK bashing to show you one of the funniest baseball pranks ever. The prank in which Brett Myers, Charlie Manuel and Ruben Amaro Jr convince Kendrick that he was traded to Japan. Enjoy!
And now we return to the KK bashing:
Two more years of Kyle Kendrick
— Everybody Hits (@Everybody_Hits) February 19, 2012
Oh joy. I can’t wait!
Every team needs an overpaid 6th starter.
— Everybody Hits (@Everybody_Hits) February 19, 2012
Absolutely, an overpaid 6th starter is what wins championships!
The Phillies have now guaranteed themselves the league lead in warning track outs for 2 more years!
— Everybody Hits (@Everybody_Hits) February 19, 2012
Truth!
The phillies just made Kendrick in tradable
— @ipk13 (@ipk13) February 19, 2012
I really hope and pray that this is true!
Something I didn’t expect for spring Day 1: an entire room of reporters is waiting for the Kyle Kendrick press conference to begin.
— David Hale (@DavidHaleTNJ) February 19, 2012
Yeah, I don’t think anyone expected that, and from reading these tweets, no one is really happy about that.
Apparently, I’m not the only one that is not that big of a Kyle Kendrick fan. I happily share my thoughts about him and will continue my plea with Ruben that he is released or traded!
