Long-time season ticket holders Raymond and Adele DiCrescenzo, didn’t get their 2012 Phillies tickets in the mail, theirs were hand delivered by the one and only Phillie Phanatic and Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr.  How awesome is that???

Posada…Wright…Phillies???

Jorge Posada - MLB.com

Reports surfaced yesterday that the Phillies had contacted NY Yankee free agent Jorge Posada.

ESPN Deportes is reporting that the Phillies have talked to free agent Jorge Posada. That information, according to the website, came from Posada’s father. – Philly.com

This ‘rumor’ was surprising to me, because I know he’s not the catcher he once was and though his hitting was still decent, the Phillies picked up Jim Thome to fill the pinch-hitting/possibly occasional first baseman while Ryan Howard rehabs his foot.  So why exactly would Posada be needed?  Even if he could still catch, it wouldn’t make much sense considering the Phillies re-signed backup catcher Brian Schneider to a one-year deal. But stranger things have happened.

And while we are on the subject of ‘rumors’ another one with more potential is the one about David Wright.

You cannot entirely dismiss the Wright rumors because the Mets are a financial mess and they know they need to tear things apart before they can become a contender again. That’s not going to happen in 2012 or even 2013, and Wright is going to be a free agent after the 2013 season. – Philly.com

I like Placido Polanco and have have no issue with him remaining the Phillies 3rd baseman, that being said, he needs to be 100% healthy and stay that way, something I’m not sure he can do.  So talks about Wright taking over the position sound pretty good.  I will openly admit that I loathe the New York Mets but have always respected Wright and saw him as more than just another lowly Met.  Having watched interviews with him and his approach to the game, it’s hard not to like the guy.  And he’s got the stats to back it up.  If the Phillies somehow worked out a way to sign Wright, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

But I’m sure the money issue would be one of the reasons Wright wouldn’t come to Philly.

From the Phillies’ standpoint, they also have to make it work financially, and that’s no small feat either. Wright is scheduled to make $15 million next season. That’s a fair salary for him, but it would be a difficult one for the Phillies to carry unless they dumped all of Polanco’s salary. There is not much of a market for a guy making $7.25 million and coming off a season in which he had nine extra-base hits after April 30. – Philly.com

I don’t put too much stock into the Posada and Wright rumblings, but when it comes to the Phillies one never knows what GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. has up his sleeve.

Phillies Phanatic Stacks “Another Brick In The Wall”

CLICK Image to watch video at MLB.com

To help promote next summer’s Roger Waters‘ “The Wall” production at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies Phanatic constructed his own version of “The Wall” by using giant white bricks, which reminded me of Legos.

Roger Waters, the co-founder and principal songwriter of the archetypal progressive band Pink Floyd, has announced the return of the historic production of “The Wall” to North America in 2012, including a stop in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 14 at 8 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. His aural and visual masterpiece of alienation and transformation will be performed in-its-entirety featuring a full band and state-of-the-art production. “The Wall” live has played more than 120 shows around the world for more than 1.6 million fans making it one of the most successful tours of 2010 and 2011.

Tickets for “The Wall” 2012 at Citizens Bank Park go on sale Monday, November 7 at 10 a.m. at LiveNation.com, ComcastTix.com, or by calling ComcastTix at (800) 298-4200. – Phillies.com

Four Phillies along with GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. and manager Charlie Manuel have been nominated for 2011 Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards aka GIBBYs.  The Phillies players nominated are Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Vance Worley, and Shane Victorino. MLB2K11 Winner – Won Using Phillies Halladay

MLB2K11 - (My son's PS3 game)

I knew about the MLB2K11 contest (which began on April 1, 2011), that if someone threw a perfect game while playing MLB2K11 (whether it be via PS3, Wii, X-Box…etc) that person would win a cool million dollars.  I had no idea if anyone had actually won it, because I hadn’t heard.  So when I was perusing the Phillies website, I was surprised to see a write up about a guy who had won it back in April of 2011.  Which is awesome but what made it even sweeter, is that the winner who resides in Louisiana, and who was not even a baseball fan, became a fan thanks to the game and a Phillies fan to boot.

The winner, Brian Kingrey, a music teacher, did tons of research on the Internet, learning baseball statistics and all about baseball in general. And through that research he realized by using right-handed pitcher Roy Halladay, who had thrown a perfect game in 2010, was the smart route to go.

“I had to actually learn the game if I was going to play,” Kingrey said. “I started learning about batters, batting averages, different kinds of pitches. I’d research, play for five hours, eat, sleep and then repeat for 2 weeks.” – Phillies.com

Kingrey’s sole mission was to play MLB2K11 until he threw that rare perfect game.  And on April 1, 2011, that became a reality. Kingrey played three games and it was the third game that he hit the jackpot.  With Halladay as his pitcher, the chosen opponent was the Houston Astros.

He (Halladay) said that even he was impressed by how Kingrey picked up the subtleties of pitching and how he won big.  “It’s not easy,” Halladay said. “I think it would take me more than five hours a day for two weeks to come anywhere close to that.” - Phillies.com

Can’t say I’ve ever played the game myself, but have watched my son play it.  And it doesn’t look easy, at all!!!  So I give Kingrey major kudos on his accomplishment.

NLDS Game 3 Preview: Phillies/Cardinals

PHI Cole Hamels & STL Jaime Garcia

The series is tied 1-1 and tonight’s Game 3 is in St.Louis.

Ryan Howard usually tears it up at Busch Stadium, playing in front of his hometown family and friends, so hopefully tonight and tomorrow are no exception.

John Mayberry, Jr. who has had good success against lefties, will most likely start in place of Raul Ibanez.  Mayberry is 3-for-6 against St. Louis southpaw Jaime Garcia, with a double and RBI.

“I don’t think anybody feels real comfortable against him,” said Mayberry about his success against Garcia. “He’s a real good pitcher. I guess I’ve been fortunate in the past.” – Phillies.com

One of the biggest keys to beating the Cards is the offense staying hot.  So far lead-off batter Jimmy Rollins has done his job effectively.

Rollins is hitting .485 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs, three walks and three stolen bases in his last eight games, including the first two games of the NLDS. – Phillies.com

So has Chase Utley who at times struggled going down the stretch.

Utley is hitting .500 with two doubles, one home run, two RBIs, four walks and one stolen base in his last four games, including the first two games of the postseason. – Phillies.com

As good as those two have been, both have not fared well against Garcia.  In their careers, Rollins is 1-for-11 and Utley is 0-for-6.  Not very good stats, but this is the playoffs and the mindset is completely different.  If Rollins gets on base, right out of the gate, he sets the tone for the rest of the game.

Tonight, we finally get to see Cole Hamels in the postseason. He finished off the regular season with 14 wins, nine losses, and a 2.79 earned run average.

“I know that being able to have good starting pitchers in the postseason is supposed to be sort of the way of success, but at the same time, in the postseason, everything is different no matter what you did during the regular season — how well you did, how well you didn’t do,” Hamels said. “You can have your big games in the postseason, but at the same time, it takes a whole team.” – Phillies.com
