In a game in which Jonathan Papelbon blew his first game of the season, Jim Thome took the opportunity to add to his Hall of Fame resume: He hit a walk-off homerun.
Why is that important? Well, ESPN Stats tweeted why that’s awesome:
Jim Thome: 13th career walk-off HR, most in MLB history (passes Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Stan Musial and Frank Robinson)

oh, and:
Jim Thome’s 609th career Home Run ties him with Sammy Sosa for 7th place on the HR list.

Congratulations Thome!
I seriously think I will make it to Cooperstown for you!
Also, Congratulations Charlie Manuel on your 900th career victory!
***Update***
After blowing save, Papelbon came in clubhouse and said he’d give $5K to whoever walked it off. He already wrote out a check to Jim Thome.
