I don’t think I’ll ever say this again, but I wish Joe West was at work last night. As a result, there were only 3 umps and loads of bad calls.
The ump was at 2nd base and said that Bryce Harper did not swing. Yeah, that bat clearly went over the plate.
However, the Phillies got out of that inning without any damage being done. They were leading in the 7th, and Shane Victorino on 2nd. Carlos Ruiz smoked a ball down the line that should have given the Phillies an insurance run.
Except it was called a foul. Once again, the no ump had a clear view.
So the Phillies tried again. Victorino stole third, but he was called out.
**Sorry about the blurry photo, but this is the best I could get.**
Ruiz then singled and Victorino would have scored a second time. That would have put the Phillies up 4-2.
If that happened, then the game would never have gone into extra innings and the Phillies would have won.
I don’t mind losing, I just hate when blown calls change the course of a game.
By my count, it’s the Phillies 0, Nationals 0, Umpires 1.
