Well…it was the Braves home opener, so I say let them have a win. Â And Larry I mean Chipper Jones got his 2,500th career, so kudos to him.
Cliff Lee went 3.1 innings, 6 runs, 10 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Â Safe to say, Lee was definitely NOT on his game, as he struggled early on. It was his 2nd worst start since September 24, 2009.
“I’d like to go pitch to them again right now, but I can’t do that,” Lee said about the Braves – Lee said after the game Philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com
Though the Phils jumped out early with a 3-0 lead by the second inning, the Braves quickly answered by tying it in the bottom of the second, then tacking on three more runs in the third. Â Bases were loaded and Chipper hit a shot to center field, though not an easy ball to catch, it was a ball center fielder Shane Victorino should have caught. The bases cleared and the Braves were up 6-3.
“I overran the ball,” Victorino said. “If it’s up to me, I want to catch everything. Was it a routine play? No. I had to go back on the ball. But I overran it, so it’s my mistake. It’s unfortunate it led to those three runs and we ended up losing by that margin. It’s definitely frustrating for me.” – Victorino said on his missed catch Philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com
Manager Charlie Manuel had to once again go to his bullpen earlier than he wanted to. Â Though Phillies relievers Kyle Kendrick, Antonio Bastardo, and JC Romero were able to keep the Braves from scoring anymore runs, the damage had already been done. Â No late inning comeback for the Phils this time. But one positive note was Bastardo’s 6 strikeouts in two innings of relief.
