Sure, sure, we had a beauty win over the Predators, snapping their 5-game winning streak and making all of us think it was 2009 again, what with goals from Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Semin. But that’s not important. What’s important is Brooks Laich in a Santa hat.
A couple of the more English-proficient Caps (Mike Green, Brooks Laich, John Carlson, Joel Ward, Nicklas Backstrom) joined up with some Wizards and Mystics and mascots to deliver presents to underprivileged children around DC.
It’s a nice article, but the money quote comes from Brooks Laich, when asked what he and Wiz rookie superstar John Wall were discussing:
“Dance moves,” he joked, “country line-dancing,” before he finally gave me a real answer: Wall had asked about the concussion epidemic in the NHL, and Laich had asked Wall about head injuries in the NBA, and then they talked about rehab and health.
After reading that I just shouted “DORK” and startled my mother. Really, Brooksie? You’re talking to probably the coolest guy in DC and you talk about head injuries. Or maybe I’m just impressed that John Wall is up-to-date on the hot topics of hockey. Hey Brooks, why didn’t you ask him what he thought about NHL players attending the Sochi Olympics?
Joking aside, it’s a lovely heart-warming story, and I hope this intra-team fraternizing doesn’t result in finding a gun in John Carlson’s locker.
