What a great game Thursday night’s battle between the Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos was to kick off the 2013-14 season! The Broncos won 49-27. The score could be a little deceptive as the Ravens did go in to half time with a 17-14 lead.
So let’s talk about a few things from this game!
* Joe Flacco isn’t elite. Peyton Manning is elite. During the lead into the game, it was as if we were ushering in the new elite of eliteness with Flacco. Peyton Manning was just a washed up old has been with a bad neck. I think that notion got struck down quite quickly. That cocky smirk Flacco had at the beginning of the game … and most of the offseason thanks to a media willing to crown him the greatest quarterback since … well, take your pick … was gone within moments of the game starting.
Flacco throw two touchdowns and got the guys down the field. But. He also threw two interceptions. Got sacked four times. And was just all around Joe Flacco!
Now. What did Peyton Manning do Thursday night? He threw a record seven touchdowns. A season removed from ALL that drama involving his neck and rumors that his career was dead. Yeah. Not so much, huh!
Who is the elite one?
* Ravens front office folks after Thursday’s game, realizing they paid Joe Flacco $120 million over six years.
Gob is correct, my friends.
… Yeah, not a fan of Joe Flacco’s. Why do you ask?
* Other game highlights!
Danny Trevathan…. NO! You haven’t crossed the …. Oh no! DERP!
* Jacoby Jones.
Oh wow! Ouch!! I became a big fan of Jacoby’s after the Super Bowl and his stint on Dancing with the Stars. This is Just awful. He got HIT by his own teammate. That’s just wrong. He left the game with a sprained knee.
* Final Thought. NBC Color commentary guy Cris Collinsworth is still awful! He is not good at math. In fact, “MATH IS HARD!” Yup! Oy! He got hit too much as a player didn’t he?
So. All around. I enjoyed this game. What are your thoughts? Am I too harsh on Joe? Not harsh enough?!
PS I have loved Peyton Manning since I was 16 years old and saw him walk through my school to help recruit a student who went on to play with him at Tennessee! Yes, I am old. But my love for Peyton is a long, undying one!
Comment below! I’d love to know what you thought of the game!
