If there were a way this game could be one of the worst this season, the Giants have found every possible way.

This was not Ryan Vogelsong’s best start and his defense was not behind him tonight. It’s as plain and simple as that.

Brad Penny, as all have come to know by now, is absolutely not a major league reliever. Six runs in two innings is not necessarily some of the most reassuring stats, but alas. It is what it is and the Penny the Giants picked up was heads down.

It’s also very telling that I am writing this recap in the 7th inning.

When the Giants are being held to three hits — five baserunners overall — and have scored zero runs, chances of a comeback are slim. And when the opposing team is leading by 14 — FOURTEEN — runs, you might as well throw your hands up in the air and walk away.

It would have been great to see the Giants go away with a win here. Even more so when you hear that the Dodgers have already won.

And then — wait, what’s this? Brandon Crawford just hit a two-run home run? Whoa, the shutout is gone. Man, this would’ve been great if the Giants had a legitimate chance, but hey, Crawford just got his first home run at home! Good on ya, kid.

But otherwise, Santiago Casilla is pitching in a blowout game. I guess that’s a bit more telling as to how the bullpen is being used tonight and also how the bullpen is being managed with Bruce Bochy having been tossed in the 3rd inning. Or something.

This game was a lot of toadfrugery and uppity bollocks, to put it simply.
