ARRRGH!!! Pirates Sink Giants

The Pirates sailed into the Bay Area and sunk the Giant’s ship of hope with a 5-0 loss Monday night.

It’s the bottom of the fifth inning and the Giants have one out with runners on first and second. Jeff Keppinger walks up to the plate, and I think “time for another double-play.”

And I was right, unfortunately. That is exactly what makes watching the Boys from the Bay so difficult right now.

It’s just so frustrating. The Pirates lost ten straight games and the G-men, although they have lost eight of ten prior to Monday night, had a big win against Philly Sunday to stop their downward skid.

This was the perfect opportunity for the Giants to rally for some success with 9-1 Ryan Vogelsong starting for the home team.

Yet, a shaky game from Vogelsong was not good for San Francisco. Vogie gave up nine hits and five earned runs in five innings on the mound.

The offense didn’t exactly compensate for the questionable pitching, as they hit into double plays in the fourth and fifth. Through nine innings the Giants left nine runners stranded on base.

Not the best outing for San Francisco. At least Nate Schierholtz was 3-4, if you want a bright spot to look at.

Hopefully the Giants won’t have to walk the plank again in Tuesday’s game—the second of the three game series.
