Colin Cowherd: Raider Hater

Compliments of athletespickingtheirnoses.com.

As already posted on the Silver & Black Daily and on Raider Nation Times, Friday’s (July 6) edition of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio apparently featured Cowherd discussing which teams he would eliminate from each league. Specifically within the NFL, Cowherd said he would eliminate the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Oakland Raiders. To be clear, Cowherd had also stated previously in the show that he would eliminate the Oakland A’s – I believe there is just a general disdain for Oakland as a city, even though they host two sports franchises rich with history and pride.

It might be relevant to add that at no time in this segment did Cowherd question the passion of Raider Nation, but there was comparison of a certain team who has recently won three Super Bowls in five appearances (hmm, guess who?!) to the four teams mentioned with a combined 0-6 record in the Super Bowl over the last few decades. I find this to be unnecessary and like comparing apples to oranges, even if I didn’t hear the segment live. It is no huge secret that Mr. Cowherd is a New England Patriots fan; he makes this quite apparent in almost every episode of Sports Nation during the NFL season.

Might I remind you all that this isn’t the first time Cowherd has used the ESPN stage to bash the Raiders. Check out what he said in spring 2007 around the time that Art Shell was hired back:

Needless to say, it’s another squirt of gas onto an already blazing fire; I expect that Raider Nation will not react pleasantly, whether they listened to the show or not. Because this is a new era ahead in the Oakland Raiders franchise, perhaps Cowherd will change his tune this fall?

I wish America and ESPN would wake up and realize that guys like Colin Cowherd, Skip Bayless, etc. all have something in common: They have no idea what the hell they’re talking about. Eliminate the Cincinnati Bengals? Is this guy out of his mind? Look at the team they’ve put together the past few seasons. Plus he also picks the Dallas Cowboys almost every single year to win the Super Bowl because for some reason he loves Tony Romo. The guy is a joke. Don’t take anything he says seriously.

Personally, I don’t take him seriously, and I haven’t since I began to watch Sports Nation a few months ago. That little stint didn’t last long because I couldn’t stand Colin Cowherd & his loud, obnoxious mouth.

To say that the Oakland Raiders should be eliminated from the NFL, one of the franchises so rich in history and with one of the most loyal fanbases, is absolutely absurd in my mind. Yes, I might be a tad bias (completely bias), but Colin Cowherd is an “America’s team” kind of guy, and I’ve seen it flip flop from Dallas to New England before. If you’re going to run your mouth about an organization, give numbers and sufficient evidence as to why it should be eliminated, not just because you thought the owner was crazy and everyone in front office was off their rocker. When you actually sit down and look at the numbers, from the team itself (combined with the Oakland A’s) and O.Co Coliseum to the amount of revenue brought in yearly, they aren’t doing too bad – the money coming in is greater than money going out. In no way do I think this is a dying franchise that needs to be put out of its misery.

I completely agree with the fact that ESPN needs to do a full re-evaluation of its personalities, because the fact of the matter is, a lot of them are being caught with their bias showing. Unless they are just into creating controversy, in that case their reputation is going to start to suffer.
