On Friday, May 4, the music world lost one of its greats when Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 47. Adam, from Brooklyn, was a huge sports fans, especially of the Knicks and the Mets.
Like many people my age, the Beastie Boys were a huge part of my life. I’m pretty sure “Ill Communication”and “Hello Nasty” were on constant rotation in CD player all throughout high school and taught this white girl to love hip hop. Cancer sucks, guys.
In remembrance, the Knicks paid homage to their fan MCA prior to Game 4 on Sunday night against the Miami Heat.
The Mets did a tribute of their own, playing a Beastie Boys song for each player’s walk up music, an idea concocted by Justin Turner and Scott Hairston.
So, why not sit back and listen to some of the great music that MCA and the Beastie Boys gave us? Turns out that the Mets picked out some pretty great songs…
David Wright – Brass Monkey
(Typically, David walks out to “Sabotage”, but changed to Brass Monkey for the game…)
Ruben Tejada – Intergalactic
Daniel Murphy – No Sleep Til Brooklyn
Lucas Duda – The New Style
Scott Hairston – Root Down
Ike Davis – Fight For Your Right (To Party)
Andres Torres – So What’cha Want
Josh Thole – Make Some Noise
Dillon Gee – Body Movin’
We’ll definitely miss you, Adam. RIP.
