Batman’s city has a football team.
In The Dark Knight Rises, the Gotham City Rogues face the Rapid City Monuments. Before the players can even finish the first quarter, the villainous Bane interrupts play and effectively ends the game.
Others have pointed out–tongue in cheek–that the movie “ignores real football.” Well, it is a fictional football game after all.
But, what the Rogues do have are a few similarities to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The movie’s football scene was filmed at Heinz Field, and the team’s uniforms are black and gold.
Current and former Steelers players and coaches have cameos in the film, including former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward will even have an action figure featuring him wearing the Gotham City uniform.
While Nike may have rights to the NFL, Under Armour is the official outfitter of the Gotham City Rogues. Visit their website, and you can see their collection of Gotham City Rogue apparel, including jerseys, t-shirts, and jackets. Perfect for the sporty Comic-Con sort.
