Donald Driver & Martina Navratilova Will Be Dancing With The Stars

Good Morning America hosted a lavish announcement for the Season 14 cast of Dancing With the Stars, including Donald Driver and Martina Navratilova. For those who have never had the pleasure of watching, Dancing with the Stars pairs “celebrities” (the term is used loosely on occasion) with top-tier dancers.

The two athletes will be competing against the likes of Steve Urkel Jaleel White, soap star Jack Wagner, musician Gavin DeGraw, and others. Don’t get too excited yet though–the season doesn’t kick off until March 19th. This gives you plenty of time to Google the “stars” you’ve never heard of: a Disney channel poptart and the “Brad Pitt of Mexico”.

Will their smooth moves help on DWTS?

Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam titles, and 17 of those trophies were hoisted before the youngest competitor this season was born. She’ll be paired with Tony Dovolani, who has never won the competition but has placed third in two seasons and was most famously paired with the world’s favorite mother-of-eight, Kate Gosselin.

Tune In Tuesday: Favre 4 Ever

March 5, 2008 – The day we thought was the end of a storybook career, but only was the beginningof  a wild, new ride.  March 5, 2012 will mark 4 years since Brett Favre announced he was retiring from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL.

I was born the year Brett Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons (so I’ve watched Brett my whole life, and as a Green Bay fan growing up, he was all I knew).  The following year was when the real story began though: Ron Wolf pulled the trigger and traded for some fella named Brett Favre (although, no one knew how to pronounce Favre at the time).

2012 marked the 20 year anniversary from the Favre to Packers trade.  No one knew at the time, but that little trade for some unknown gunslinger was one of the best things to happen to the NFL.

Say what you will about Brett Favre and how the last 4 years have unfolded.  But NOTHING can take away to how much Favre meant to Green Bay and how much they meant to him.

When Brett Favre was playing, all eyes were on him (even Randy Moss couldn’t help but marvel at his oppponent).  Favre played the game like he was still down in Kiln, Mississippi playing with some buddies.  On the field, he might have gotten slower as the years went on, but his rocket arm and his love for the game never changed.  Each Sunday, he played like it was his last game and left everything he had on the field.

Monday Morning Motivation: Rajon Rondo

All the talk around Celtics’ PG Rajon Rondo has revolved around trade talks, his immaturity, and how the Celtics’ don’t have faith in building around him in the future.  But to me, none of the negativity really makes sense.

Credit: Dime Magazine

In 22 games played this season, Rondo is averaging 14.8 ppg (career high), 9.5 apg, and 4.9 rpg.  He’s had 2 impressive triple-doubles this season, which is #1 in the league.  On Febuary 12th, Rondo dropped 32 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds versus the Rose-less Bulls.

The King (Henrik) Of Rock ‘N’ Roll

Henrik Lundqvist is famous for his work between the pipes as the oft-unbeatable goalie of the New York Rangers.

With a save percentage of .940 and seven shutouts on the season, one might think that the King works so hard on the ice that he doesn’t have time for anything else.

False. Every once in awhile he takes off the goalie gloves to learn some new chords.

Yes, this dreamboat of a hockey player also plays guitar. In a band. With John McEnroe.

On Wednesday, Lundqvist and McEnroe’s band, “The Noise Upstairs”, performed at a music venue in New York City as part of a “Rock of Dreams” concert. The event benefitted MSG’s Garden of Dreams Foundation and the Johnny Mac Tennis Project.

Lundqvist said after the event:

“It was great, and I am so happy that it happened…It was sold out, and I don’t have the final numbers, but I know we raised a lot of money for The Garden of Dreams and the Johnny Mac Tennis Project. That was the goal: to have a fun night and to raise a lot of money.”

In case the picture above wasn’t enough for you, there are more where that came from.  So, King Henrik, Most Valuable Popstar? (Just kidding, he’s a rockstar, but MVR just doesn’t look right).

And in bonus Lundqvist coverage, guess who just announced he’s going to be a dad!

Friday FAIL: Ryan Braun, The AP, And A Cup Of Urine

The good news: Braun in a baseball uniform means less Braun in douchey Affliction shirts

There was a whole lot of FAIL going on surrounding the announcement of MVP Ryan Braun’s overturned suspension on Thursday afternoon.

First, everyone starts reporting that Braun’s suspension had been overturned.  Then, to add the chaos, the Associated Press reports:

(AP) — National League MVP Ryan Braun’s 50-game suspension upheld by arbitrator.

So.Much.Confusion.  Then a few minutes later, the Associated Press changes their mind:

(AP) — CORRECTS: NL MVP Ryan Braun’s 50-game suspension has been overturned. (Corrects APNewsAlert saying suspension was upheld)

Oopsies.

The fun didn’t stop there, kids!  Then Major League Baseball  released this statement regarding the overturned suspension: » Continue reading “Friday FAIL: Ryan Braun, The AP, And A Cup Of Urine”

“How To Get Rid Of Evidence” By Elijah Dukes

Wanna look this happy? Eat some pot. (Photo from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.)

You may know that I regularly write about the Rays for Aerys Sports. However, I don’t like to claim Elijah Dukes. He played for the Devil Rays in 2007 before moving on to Washington for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The Nationals released him during Spring Training in 2010. With Dukes’ track record, I won’t try to pawn stories about him off on our Nationals reporter Keara Dowd. (Keara did eventually give in and write about the latest Duke incident.)

Since 2001, Dukes has been arrested dozens of times. Last February, Dukes announced he was becoming a rapper named “Fly Eli.” He also admitted to smoking pot before games. (See how well that worked out for him, kids???)

One year later, and he’s eating pot instead of just smoking it. Yep. » Continue reading ““How To Get Rid Of Evidence” By Elijah Dukes”

Twitter Thursday: The Feud Edition

Can't all the tweeters get along?

People sure have been testy on the Twitters this week.  We had this gem of a tweet from NFL Live host, Trey Wingo in regards to CNBC and NBC Sports Network’s Darren Rovell:

I’m not sure that anyone has ever died due to pretending to be czar of Twitter, but if anyone can do it, Darren Rovell can!

However, the biggest Twitter-war had to have been between WWE’s CM Punk  (aka @CMPunk) and Chris Brown, which began with this tweet: » Continue reading “Twitter Thursday: The Feud Edition”

Seriously, LeBron? Well Done?

Do you want us to feed you after we cut up your food, too?

It’s like LeBron James is actively trying to get us to make fun of him more than we already do.

An article from CBSSports.com about Mr. James’s dining out habits was brought to my attention this afternoon, and, well, it doesn’t make LBJ look to well.  Here’s what you need to know:

  • He reportedly left a $10 tip on an $800 tab.
  • He enjoys apple martinis.
  • Apparently he’s rude to the wait staff (supposedly making a few bartenders cry).
And finally…and this is a direct quote from CleveScene.com (the blog that interviewed the waitress):
  • “He liked his steak well-done and asked at least once to have it cut up for him. Our waitress said she flat out told him no. (Someone also once told us that when LeBron ordered spaghetti at Johnny’s Downtown one night, he tried sending it back to be cut up for him. King James is above knife-work.)”

WELL DONE?  CUT UP FOR HIM?  You are a GROWN MAN who makes a lot of money.  You do NOT order a steak well done.  They also pointed out that he used A-1 steak sauce.

Seriously, do you hate steak?  What did steak ever do to you?
