Friday Fail: Yorvit Torrealba

Per usual, there were numerous choices for this week’s Friday Fail…Kasey Kahne dissing breastfeeding on Twitter, the non-existent defenses of Baylor and Univ. of Washington, or even finding out that the Angels will be paying Pujols $30mil+/year in his final contract years.  Nah, too tame.  No, this week, we’ve picked something a bit more, umm, violent?

Well, earlier this week, Rangers’ catcher Yorvit Torrealba was suspended for 66 games in the Venezuelan League (which I’m told is pretty much the entire season) for hitting an umpire in the face during a game.  Any punishments from this league do not carry over to the MLB, but that still doesn’t mean that either the Rangers or MLB won’t punish him for the altercation.

Here’s the video:

Uhh…yikes.  I’d make fun, but well, he sorta scares me now.  Yorvit, please don’t eat my (imaginary) children.

Twitter Thursday: Wes Welker Joins Twitter; Awesomeness Follows

Chad Ochocino is a lot of things : NFL Wide Receiver, Entrepreneur, Actor (He was on an episode of the League), Entertainer, Comedian (?), Bull Rider, Star that Danced with Non-Stars, and perhaps most notably, a World-Class Tweeter. His tweets are so popular, he recently earned the #1 spot on CNBC’s Most Influential Athletes In Social Media List.

It might not seem that desirable for a guy who is supposed to be earning his money as an NFL player to be mostly recognized for his Twitter account, but in this day and age that is actually worth a lot. In fact, it’s worth an estimated  $2.7 million dollars. So, there is that.

Wes Welkers current Twitter avatar is not an actual photo of Wes Welker.

Chad’s social media presence is so influential that he actually managed to convince teammates Aaron Hernandez and Wes Welker to join Twitter, somehow overriding the Bill Belichick no-fun clause and helping spread Twitter joy to millions of people everywhere – especially people that live in New England.

As a Jets fan, I feel I am obligated to tell you that you shouldn’t follow Wes Welker (or any Patriot for that matter) but truthfully, I cannot. Wes Welker is turning out to be a great tweeter and he fills my timeline with things I never expected a New England Patriot could : Sunshine, giggles and rainbows. Okay, maybe not sunshine and rainbows, but you get what I mean.

Just how wonderful is Wes Welker’s Twitter account? Well here’s a sneak peak of what you might expect from the wide receiver.

Tune-In Tuesday: One Bear Fan’s Ode To Misery

For a whlie, things were so good. The Bears were rolling, opponents were falling, and Bears Nation had their eyes turned towards the playoffs.

And yet.

Suddenly, it all went so wrong.

Down went Jay Cuter, Matt Forte, Johnny Knox, and Gabe Carimi. And just like that, it was over.

So Bears fans, I’ve compiled a list of songs for you to down your sorrows in. Copious amounts of alcohol are suggested and encouraged.

Was anything ever more of a lost cause than the games in which the Bears started Caleb Hanie?

This Just In: Kobe Tries To Save Face!

Because I know this is what EVERYONE wants to read on Christmas Eve…or if you don’t celebrate that particular holiday, on a random Saturday afternoon… a Kobe divorce rumor!

The latest in the Kobe divorce is that Kobe Bryant is trying to save the marriage “for the sake of the kids”.

Excuse me while I laugh hysterically…

Ok.  I’m better.  Seriously, dude?  I’m guess you going around sleeping with everyone woman in the city of Los Angeles was “for the sake of the kids” too?  Give me a break.

Cough, cough, no prenup, cough, cough.

Friday Fail: Really America?

Let me get this straight. These two are more likable than someone who marries Kim K?

According to a recent Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research poll, Kris Humphries has surpassed LeBron James as the most hated player in the NBA.

Are you kidding me?  Marrying and divorcing a Kardashian makes you more hated than a player who ditched his hometown and held a news conference to tell everyone where he was taking his “talents”?  Or someone who has cheated on his wife repeatedly for 10 years with over 100 women who was also charged with rape?  Yeah, that makes sense.

Honestly, yes, I’m sort of tired of hearing about Kris Humphries.  Yes, he was stupid to play along in whatever charade Kim Kardashian was attempting to deceive America with, but I mostly just feel sorry for him.  The kid is just dumb…and it’s not morally right to hate dumb.  Aren’t they suffering enough?

Oh and if you’re curious, the top 10 plays out as follows:

1. Kris Humphries (50 percent dislike)
2. LeBron James (48 percent)
3. Kobe Bryant (45 percent)
4. Tony Parker (37 percent)
5. Metta World Peace (36 percent)
6. Chris Bosh (34 percent)
7. Carmelo Anthony (27 percent)
8. Paul Pierce (25 percent)
9. Dwyane Wade (23 percent)
10. Lamar Odom (21 percent)

Tsk. Tsk.  The biggest ego-maniac on the planet and an alleged rapist/adulterer are numbers 2 and 3?  America, we need to talk.

Twitter Thursday: Joe Buck Edition

Well, Christmas came early, folks.  If you weren’t on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, you may not have learned that broadcaster Joe Buck has officially joined Twitter.  And let me tell you, we’re in for some fun.

What’s up with that picture?  Creepy much?  Also that bio?  Who knew Joe was a bitter old crank?  I love it.

Confession:  I’m not convinced this account is real despite the “verified” check mark.  This persona does not match the one I had made up about Joe based on zero interactions and his broadcasts.  Why aren’t you boring?  Nonetheless, that won’t stop me from “analyzing” his ramblings.

Free Throws Are Hard

So what did Lebron James do during the NBA lockout?  Clearly it wasn’t practicing free throws.

Lebron, I could’ve done that…

Dunking On Reindeer

With the start of the NBA season and Christmas only a few days away, I thought we could use a NBA Christmas rap video, complete with LeBron and Kobe puppets.  Enjoy.

Yeah, everything is funnier when puppets are involved.
