Another A-Rod Book In The Works?

Well, it seems as though another book abut New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is in the publishing pipeline.

Richard Ben Cramer who wrote the best-selling 2000 biography of Yankee Clipper Joe DiMaggio, “The Hero’s Life,” is now working on a book about Rodriguez tentatively titled, “The Importance of Being Alex: A Life With the Yankees.”

The book isn’t scheduled to come out until April 2014 but according to the New York Daily News, insiders say the book will “highlight the slugger’s exploits both on and off the field.”

Didn’t Selena Roberts already do this?

The Daily News also reports that Rodriguez is cooperating with Cramer — unlike DiMaggio, who refused to — but insiders also say, “There will be things in the book that A-Rod will certainly not like and were never revealed before.”

Is anyone else as confused as I am?

Cramer is said to be writing about Rodriguez’s friendship with Derek Jeter and the 2001 GQ article in which he downplayed Jeter’s playing ability: a story Yankee fans have heard over and over for the past 10 years.

Also said to be included in the book is Rodriguez’s 2009 steroid admission which again, is more stuff people — especially Yankee fans — already know about.

Maybe the “never revealed before” stuff in the book will have more in depth information about Rodriguez’s dalliances with Madonna, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz?

Hmm, is it too early to pre order the book on Amazon.com?

Twitter ‘Feud’ Between Kesler, Mangold #CantBeTamed

This post originally appeared on Dekes and Dangles.

Oh, that unclassy Ryan Kesler. Shouldn’t he be focused on his training and post-surgery rehab? Instead, he’s been on Twitter more than ever in the past week. Yesterday, he took a jab at New York Jets center Nick Mangold:

Having no knowledge whatsoever on the world of sports outside of hockey, I had to ask a fellow Aerys writer who this guy is. All that it tells me on his Twitter profile is “I try to find the humor in everything while promoting the virtue of being manly.”

Fellow Aerys writer tells me it’s all probably in jest, since Mangold and Kesler both attended Ohio State University. Mangold’s tweets in defence of Kesler’s finger-pointing, though, don’t seem to be the friendly kind we hockey fans see between Michael Grabner and Matt Moulson.

Imagine my surprise! He thinks Kesler is a nobody, and I, a Kesler fan, think he is a nobody! Who wants to get started on this Hollywood screenplay? Mangold’s defensive tweets didn’t end there, though. He also replied to several other fans who defended his stance, and to a Canucks fan, he tweeted, ”I wasn’t the one who started this whole mess”.

Mess? What mess? Ryan Kesler to aisle 3. So sorry, but Kesler appears to be busy. He hasn’t tweeted about the incident in 16 hours, and today is his birthday, so he must be going around partying hard, interview bombing anyone he can, starting more feuds …

Not enjoying a day off on his birthday? That Ryan Kesler, doesn’t he do anything right?

Artest Dancing With the Stars … For A Cause

There’s more to Lakers forward Ron Artest strutting around the ballroom for the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars.

Not only is the NBA season in limbo, but Artest’s daughter told him he should do it. Not only is he not letting his daughter down, but he’s donating all proceeds to cancer research, according to People.com.

After reading that, how can you not root for the guy? He’s got some homework to do, as this video shows he doesn’t know what square dancing is. Luckily for Artest, I don’t think the show has square dancing.

ABC announced the rest of the cast — Chaz Bono, David Arquette, Kristin Cavallari, Nancy Grace, Elisabetta Canalis, Ricki Lake, Chynna Phillips, Rob Kardashian, Carson Kressley, Hope Solo and J.R. Martinez.

The quest for the mirror ball trophy begins Sept. 19.

Tune In Tuesday: Baltimore Orioles

I write for a team that very few people seem to care about lately. This naturally is because they’re not very good right now and haven’t been for over a decade. The Orioles fanbase that remains, however, is extremely loyal and tight-knit, and I’ve always found them to be very passionate people. I guess you have to be when your team doesn’t win very much.

So let’s talk about some songs that go along with this team, shall we?

1. Orioles Magic

Self-explanatory. That was the team’s theme song back when they were good. Unfortunately nowadays the song is used in a punning way due to the appearance of the Twitter hashtag #OriolesTragic, but you get the idea. Once upon a time, the Orioles played good baseball.

Ron Artest Will Be Dancing With The Stars

The newest cast for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars has been leaked ahead of the formal announcement scheduled to be made this evening and here are the participants:

Nancy Grace
Kristin Cavalleri
Ricki Lake
Chynna Phillips
Hope Solis
Elizabetta Canalis
David Arquette
Rob Kardashian
Ryan O’Neal
J.R. Martinez
Chaz Bono
Ron Artest

…Yes, that Ron Artest. The Lakers forward needs something to do during the NBA lockout and what’s better than shaking your booty on TV?

I wonder if by the time the show starts Artest will get his outstanding warrants settled and have his name appear as Metta World Peace.

We’ll all find out when the new season begins on Sept. 19.

You Don’t Have to Be a Racing Fan to Appreciate This Movie

It’s absolutely difficult to figure out how to tell someone to see this movie other than “just go.” I have been waiting months for this film to open. You may not have ever heard of Ayrton Senna. You may be wondering why you should care.

This movie is absolutely incredible and there is no need to be a previous Formula 1 fan to know and love the story that is Ayrton Senna. It’s been over for two hours now and I still want to cry, and yet I’m completely inspired. I want to see it again even if it means I uncontrollably sob like I need to.

This is not a movie just for Formula 1 fans. This is a movie for anyone who loves sports.

Of course, you may want to know who Senna is before going in. Senna was a three-time world champion in his 10 years in Formula 1.

As a Brazilian driver in a predominantly European sport, he found out the hard way what it would take to show he belonged. It has everything a good sports movie needs, but best of all it uses archived footage. It’s everything as it actually happened. In car cameras, drivers’ meetings, Senna family home video, nothing was recreated for this movie.

Monday Morning Motivation: Marat Safin

You guys, I’m not a great tennis player. Abysmal is usually the word I use to describe my skill. I’m really not even that much of a fan. This morning, I might have to change my mind about that last part. Behold, Marat Safin:
