Buckeye Friday Factoids – Illinois

  • Tim Beckman is a former assistant under Urban Meyer at Bowling Green. He is the 10th Meyer assistant to land a head coaching gig and only the second to face Meyer head-to-head.
  • As OSU has yet to have a bye week, they are currently the only team in the nation with 9 wins.
  • Ohio State holds a 1 1/2 game lead in the Leaders Division and owns the tiebreaker with second place Penn State.
  • The Ohio State/Illinois series is being renewed for the 99th time. It is the second longest series for The Buckeyes, with only the series against Michigan being longer.
  • Illinois has won seven of the last 11 games in Ohio Stadium. In addition to this, they also hold a better winning percentage against OSU in The Shoe than they do on their home turf.
  • Illinois was the team to completely ruin Ohio State’s in 2007. Buckeye fans are in no way bitter about this.
  • Should OSU win, only Earle Bruce will have a better start in his first year as a head coach. He started off 11-0.
  • Illibuck is on the line! The trophy started as a real, live turtle in 1925. It is the second oldest trophy game in the B1G behind the Little Brown Jug.
  • Braxton Miller needs only one more TD to move into the top 5 in OSU history for TDs responsible for in a season. He needs only 7 more to tie for first place with Troy Smith and Bobby Hoying. Meyer only needs 12 TDs to hold the career record. Meyer is, of course, just a Sophomore.
  • Ohio State is ranked 6th in the AP. They are unranked in the coach’s poll due to NCAA sanctions, more specifically the bowl ban.
