Another Ram Bites The Dust: T Jason Smith To IR

Unbelievable...

I thought I’d be done writing IR updates for the Rams this week but we’re just learning that OT Jason Smith will finally be placed on injured reserve.  According to my count Smith makes it 13 Rams players on the current list.

Smith drilled his head into the thigh of a Cowboys defender trying to recover the ball four weeks ago.  He was taken off on a cart with what was believed to be a head/neck strain.  It was later confirmed to be yet another concussion for this second year player.  His rookie season was also cut short from an untimely concussion.

Rams have claimed OL Bryan Mattison on waivers from Ravens.

This is another tough break for the Rams offensive line and for Jason Smith himself.  People can call him a bust but now it’s all about his health.  Suffering from concussion symptoms four weeks since the injury does not bode well for his future in football.  At this point you have to wonder if he’s suffered permanent brain damage.  Although I really hope this isn’t the case.

Sometimes you have to decide whether this game is worth the sacrifice.  If Jason Smith were my son I would convince him to retire. I truly hope he gets better soon.  God speed your recovery, Jason.

Latest Addition To Rams IR: WR Mark Clayton

Added back to the IR on 11/24/11

Just when you thought there wasn’t enough room on the Rams IR they go ahead and add yet another player:  This time it’s WR Mark Clayton.  Clayton was active for two games and started in just one game for the Rams.

We wish you the best as you try to get healthy for next year, Mr. Clayton.

In his own words

To fill Mark Clayton’s spot on the roster, Rams sign WR/KR Nick Miller to help out with the return game.

Here’s a quick look at all the Rams on IR for all those who’ve been asking about it.

Updated as of 11/22/11 from STLouisRams.com

And if you’re a glutton for punishment and not turkey on this Thanksgiving Day here’s a chronological look at all the season ending injuries the Rams have dealt with so far.  Not even my favorite garlic mashed potatoes washed down with some Chimay will help ease the pain of reading this list.  Take a seat folks, it’s long.
