Packers Training Camp: Day 1

photo from kentuckysportsradio.com

Today is the day! The Green Bay Packers have began their training camp practices in preparation for the upcoming season. I mean, what could be more exciting than that?

As the tradition started under Vince Lombardi continues, the players arrive at training camp riding childrens bikes. Also, over 1,500 fans were there to watch the Pack take the field. I’ve been to many training camp practices in my life, but can’t say I’ve ever attended one with an audience like that! I’m lovin the dedication of the fans!

All eight of the players that were drafted were in attendance and participated in today’s practice. Not in attendance was Charlie Peprah who was cut from the team yesterday after a failed physical, along with Desmond Bishop, Jerron McMillian, M.D. Jennings, and Andrew Quarless.

According to Mike Spofford, Packers.com staff writer, after the practice Aaron Rodgers let it be known exactly what he thought this team needed to be successful this season…consistancy.

” I think it’s just consistency, building off what we did last year and understanding what happened last year. We went through a great regular season, winning 15 games and doing a lot of things that hadn’t happened here in Green Bay before, and got knocked out in the first round. It makes you realize the only thing that matters is winning championships, and you have to win some playoff games to get there,” said Rodgers.

Coming off of a 15-1 season, I think everyone has a high expectation of the Packers, and the players and coaching staff are running with it. They expect the same…and we all know it’s possible!

Packers Countdown To Training Camp

photo from roemerfootballblog.com

It’s almost time!

Only 14 days remain until the first Packers Training Camp practice.

Of course we’re all excited to get football season underway and see the veterans play, but training camp provides a glimpse of what the rookies will bring to the table as well.

LB Nick Perry, the Packers first round draft pick, is the one person I am most anxious to hear about.

Defense was definitely where Green Bay struggled the most last season, and by having that extra guy out there to help out Clay Matthews, I think we’re going to see a difference…a great difference!

The Packers are in the middle of their third week of OTAs.

There are still a number of players who are not participating in the OTAs, and the list is as follows:

RB Alex Green, CB Charles Woodson, S Charlie Peprah, FB John Kuhn, LB Frank Zombo, DL Johnny Jones, G Jaymes Brooks, DT Mike Daniels, DT Daniel Muir, T Derek Sherrod, TE Andrew Quarless, WR Greg Jennings, TE Jermichael Finley, and DE Lawrence Guy (from Packers.com).

This will also be the last week that the Packers are together for OTAs.

Next week the Packers will have three mini camp practices, held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The mini camp on Tuesday will be the only one open to the public. Training camp will then begin July 26.
