Packers vs. Texans Preview

The Houston Texans  are one of the only two teams in the NFL who have yet to lose a game this season, and are also the team that the Packers will meet Sunday night. Tragic? I should say not.

The Packers do have to make the road trip down to Houston which does not help the situation by any means, but there is no reason to think that the Texans are unbeatable. And here’s why.

They only beat the New York Jets last week by 6. We all know that the Jets have had their struggles this year, there is no denying that. Between all of the hype and publicity they have received because of Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Rex Ryan, and the rest of the gang, their disaster of a season has not gone unseen. Nothing against the Jets, I think Rex Ryan is absolutely hysterical and Tim Tebow is awesome, but let’s be real here.  If the Texans could only win by 6 against the 2-3 New York Jets, please tell me why Green Bay couldn’t have a chance at winning.

Stop Arian Foster. It’s quite obvious that Arian Foster is having, well, the best season ever, but….if they can stop him, then it’s smooth sailing. It’s not been decided yet if B.J. Raji will be participating in Sunday’s game or not, but if not it will have to be left up to the other guys on the line. With 132 carries this season already, it’s not going to be easy to stop Foster, but they can get it done. Mike Spofford of packers.com said that Foster is the Packers key target for Sunday night’s game according to Head Coach Mike McCarthy.

Faith in your team. I’m a firm believer in having faith in your team, and believing that they can face whatever challenge or team lies in front of them. If you go into thinking that your team can’t win, then maybe the won’t. Have the mind set that they can, and many times they will.

Plus, I know for me, when I watch the Packers play, I expect them to win. I always go into it thinking they have the advantage, no matter what team they’re facing. But, maybe I’m a little biased too. :)

Week 6, here we come. GO PACK GO!

When Will Green Bay Retire #4?

photo from myhero.com

There has been a lot of talk this past week about the Packers retiring number 4, belonging to the one and only Brett Favre.

Brett Favre was the quarterback in Green Bay for 16 seasons, 1992-2007.

We all know that the break-up between Favre and the Packers wasn’t the prettiest, and then leaving for the New York Jets and then the Minnesota Vikings is a whole other story, but he still led the Pack for many years and deserves to have his number retired.

As of right now, retiring his number is in discussion, but it may not happen for another year or two according to Packers president Mark Murphy.

Murphy also stated that they want to wait until the time is “meaningful to him,” meaning Favre.

Maybe this is just my thinking, but I would imagine that Favre would be fine with this taking place at any time. You’re getting your number retired, and deservedly so, so don’t be picky about when.

I know people are still upset with Favre… and then there are those who are still infatuated with him and can’t seem to entertain the thought of Aaron Rodgers… well, to both sides,  everyone needs to realize that Brett Favre is a Packers legend and really does deserve every bit of credit given to him for being apart of the Packers organization like he was, and also if you’re a true Green Bay fan, you’ll love Rodgers just as much and support the team no matter what!

No matter the viewpoint of all of us, the retiring of #4 will happen in time. Until then, let’s take a look back at some of Brett’s best moments.

Taking A Look Around The League

There have been many interesting things happen this week throughout the NFL, and they will all affect the upcoming season.

Last night, it was reported that the St. Louis Rams will trade their #2 pick to the Washington Redskins. The Redskins will then be able to draft Baylor’s RG3, and the Rams will get 3 first round picks out of the deal, leaving the faithful St. Louis fans rejoicing.

Peyton Manning was also released from the Indianapolis Colts after 14 seasons earlier this week. He has since met with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and is meeting with the Arizona Cardinals tonight. In my opinion, Peyton will end up being a Cardinal for the next season, and Matt Flynn could possibly head to the Dolphins. Nothing has been said or decided yet, that is just a scenario I could see.

Mark Sanchez also got a contract extension with the New York Jets, making that a team that will be out of the question for Manning.

And Packers fan, I have not forgotten about you! Brett Favre’s twitter account that we were all so excited about following and keeping up with has been hacked….let’s figure it out Brett. We want you on Twitter!

Also, here is a list of a few free agents that the Packers may pay a little bit of attention to. Free Agency begins on Tuesday!
