Packers Fall To 49′ers In Game One

First off, I’ll say this. It’s one loss, just gotta brush it off. On to the next one.

The next thing I would like to mention is that we need the refs back! No, I cannot blame the loss today completely on the refs, but let’s be real. They were definitely in favor of the niners…especially in the first half.

The Packers were just not able to hold up against the 49′ers defense. I know, you can’t compare this years team to last, but I must say that this is not the 15-1 Packers that we saw last year…and not even close to the same offense.

While I’m still ranting about things that I didn’t like about this game, what’s up with Perrish Cox flipping Jermichael Finley and then stomping on him? Not cool. But then, Jermichael came back and scored a touchdown, and as it was stated on the Aerys NFL Twitter feed, Finley gets a TD, a Lambeau Leap, and the last laugh. The first Lambeau leap of the season too. Couldn’t have said it better myself!

But back to the recap of the game, it wasn’t pretty. The first quarter consisted of a David Akers field goal to put the niners up by 3.  Things got a little more interesting in the second quarter.  In the 49ers first of the second, Alex Smith hits Randy Moss for a TD, and Green Bay responds on the next drive with the Finley TD.

In the third quarter Alex Smith hit Vernon Davis for a TD, and the fourth quarter was by far the best.

With 11:35 left in the fourth, Randall Cobb runs for a 75 yard TD on the punt return, followed by a successful 2-point conversion attempt.  On their next drive, Rodgers passes to Jones for a 10-yd TD, making the score 30-22 San Fran.

This is the time where we were all hoping for the rally of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, but in the end they just couldn’t get it done.

That’s why I say there is always next week….just have to keep workin.

The Packers will meet the Chicago Bears this Thursday for an NFC North showdown. With wins from the Lions, Vikings, and Bears today, Green Bay has a lot to make up for in the division. GO PACK GO!

The QB Controversy

Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks got their QB, and yes it was non other than Aaron Rodgers back up man, Matt Flynn. He may not have gotten the biggest contract, but at least he is now able to have his own team to lead. Welcome to the NFC West Mr. FLynn.

Flynn’s deal with Seattle is for 3 years, and $26 million, $10 million guaranteed.

Flynn had a visit with the Miami Dolphins as well, but chose the other team….seems to be the trend around the league.

Miami wasn’t able to convince Peyton Manning to come to play for them, and now they have missed out on Matt Flynn. Forgive me for saying this because I know every team plays every game with the goal of a win, but perhaps they wish they had a higher draft pick this year so they could draft a new QB? :)

With that being said, news was just released moments ago that Peyton Manning is now a Denver Bronco. That brings up the question of where Tim Tebow will end up for next season. Maybe Miami can work something out with him? Alex Smith of the 49′ers is still in question for the Dolphins as well. Needless to say, Miami will figure it out and get their QB, and Tebow will be a great addition to whichever team he end up with. Yes, he has some things he needs to work on, but I’ve supported the kid through it all and with his excellent leadership skills and high character, he’ll find his place.

But back to Flynn, he did play one game for Green Bay this season and put up some excellend stats, and I know Seattle is going to be very happy with their new additon. I think Aaron Rodgers and Seattle Head Coach Pete Carroll completely agree.

Green Bay and Seattle will in fact meet each other this season at Seattle. And according to Vic Ketchman, it will be a great game to watch.

It’ll be a very high profile-game for Packers fans. Whether or not it’s a game of national interest will depend on where it fits on the schedule and how Matt Flynn is performing when the two teams meet.

What About Flynn?

While every football fan in America is waiting around for Peyton Manning to make his decision about what team he is going to play for and how that will affect their team, the Matt Flynn situation has been somewhat overlooked…but today that may have changed.

There has been constant talk of Manning visiting and talking to Arizona, Miami, Tennessee, and Denver, but today it was announced that the 49′ers are just as interested in him, and that Miami is pretty well out of the mix, according to ESPN’s Adam Shefter.

Miami however, is one of the teams that Matt Flynn may very well end up at. To me that makes the most sense, but Flynn has also been meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. But with Miami not a front runner for Manning, it could definitely end up being Flynn’s new home.

Also today Packers former Pro- Bowler, center Scott Wells, signed with the St. Louis Rams.

Of course any team should be proud to sign Flynn or Wells, but Green Bay has been pretty quiet thus far during free agency…but when you think about it, you can’t blame them.

They were the champs of last years Super Bowl XLV, and went 15-1 on the regular season this past year…definitely nothing to complain about.

Although Green Bay hasn’t made any huge moves yet during free agency, it’s not over…so for now just sit back and enjoy watching other teams negotiate, sign players to huge contracts, and soak in all the exciting things happening around the league.
