Jets Rumor Patrol: Visanthe Shiancoe
At this point, it’s pretty likely you’ve heard the reports about the Jets alleged interest in Vikings free agent tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. I haven’t spent a whole lot of time analyzing the Shaince rumors, mostly because I felt the majority of it was speculative. However, it seems the interest has been somewhat substantiated, with an emhpasis on somewhat. I’ll let you decide.
The chatter began early last week when NFL.com insider Jason LaCanfora tweeted that the Jets and the Cowboys would be the “best bet” for Shiancoe. The tweet appeared to be mostly opinion and less of an insider report, though as you know it’s often difficult to differientiate between the two. At the time, I believed it to be La Canfora’s implication, but naturally, Twitter conversations shifted to what a Shaincoe signing could potentially bring to the team.
For what it’s worth, I can no longer find the original tweet that I know existed (because I saw it with my own eyes). I did link to it in a previous post, but it appears to have been deleted. I don’t want to cook up a crazy conspiracy theory, but I’m thinking perhaps it was deleted because it was speculative and JLC was asked to remove it. I was able to find this, however, in reply to another tweeter:
La Canfora also replied to a tweet from Ralph Mancini, who feels that the Jets need a blocking tight end, not another receiving option like Shiancoe.
