Report: Jets Inquire About Maurice Jones-Drew

Per Yahoo Sports’ Tom Krasniqi, “the Jets are one of several teams that have called to inquire about Maurice Jones-Drew.

This would seem to conflict with previous reports the Jets were not interested. But in today’s news cycle, nearly everything is so five minutes ago, and rumors about the Jets possible interest in the running back have been running rampant ever since ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Jones-Drew was open to being traded late yesterday afternoon.

Jones-Drew has been holding out for a new contract after leading the NFL in rushing last season. MJD and the Jags have not opened up talks to negotiate a new deal as the Jags organization, “does not wanting to set a precedent of paying players with two years remaining on lucrative deals that included large signing bonuses.”

MJD’s willingness to entertain a trade were revealed shortly after the Jaguars new owner, Shad Khan, publicly commented in the running back’s holdout saying, ”

This is not a team about one person.” He later added, “Train’s leaving the station. Run, get on it.”

The thing is, it’s not up to MJD whether or not he will or will not be traded. It’s up to the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to sources, the Jags are not interested in trading MJD, but if a team offers up enough, perhaps they would be willing to change their stance.

Mike Tannenbaum has a history of making blockbuster trades and two very rough preseason games, Jets Nation is calling for Mike Tannenbaum to do everything in his power to acquire MJD.

What do you think – due diligence or legit interest? Do you think the Jets should trade for MJD? While Maurice Jones Drew would certainly help Ground and Pound, can the Jets even afford the star running back?
