On Monday night, the Jets announced the release of wide receivers Scotty McKnight and DaMarcus Ganaway. The announcement was made by GM Mike Tannenbaum.
McKnight was a seventh round pick for the team in the 2011 draft. He started the ’11 season on the practice squad and suffered an ACL injury in November. He finished the season on PS Injured Reserve. He was signed to a future contract in March of this year.
Ganaway, a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan, was signed to a future contract in January.
The first round of roster cuts does not need to be completed until August 28th, but with both of these receivers injured and not providing any assistance to any already injury-depleted WR corps, the Jets could not afford to keep them around for camp.
There is a lot of speculation the Jets are priming to make a move to pick up a veteran WR. Given the injury predicament at the position, it seems imminent. I will update as this develops.
