Two big Jets related headlines this morning. One is a terrible story about a fan who brought a taser into MetLife stadium on Sunday Night, another celebrating the Jets excellent use of Social Media.

Sanchez and the Jets make the cover of this weeks SI, which features an article on the Ryan brothers
Fan Uses Taser as Violence Breaks Out a Cowboys-Jets Game: The horrifying trend of stadium violence continued at the Jets game on Sunday when Leroy McKelvey (wearing a Cowboys jersey) brought a stun gun into Metlife Stadium and tased 3 fans, one of which was a marine.
Here is a link to the Deadspin article which includes video of the fight. (And here is my obligatory warning about the language used in the video).
The Jets Social Media Takeoff: The Jets have become a leader in social media. The team has reached record numbers of Facebook Fans and Twitter followers and generated a ton of buzz online during an offseason slowed by the lockout.
The team has even implemented a social media strategy, with rules for the players on the “do’s and don’ts of Twitter” and seminars at the beginning of each season. That, combined with the organizations efforts to use social to further the “brand”, has tremendously grown the fan base.
The team has worked with social media expert Gary Vaynerchuck (follow him on twitter, @GaryVee) in coaching the players and the team about how to lead the way and set the standard for social in the NFL.
One thing you can not expect from the Jets and their social media presence? Seeing Rex Ryan on Twitter. He has said he will not join.
A few other notes:
- According to Jenny Vrentas’ Twitter, the Jets raised almost $80,ooo for charity with 9/11 commemorative NYPD, FDNY & Port Authority hats.
- Rosenhaus Sports has signed Jets TE Dustin Keller according to their Twitter. I’ll spare a diatribe about my personal opinion of Rosenhaus but congratulations to Dustin Keller.
- Rex Ryan did not give a game ball to any of the defensive players on Sunday because, “ because the unit was inconsistent and didn’t play up to standards.” (Also per Jenny Vrentas). Game balls were given to Nick Folk, LaDainian Tomlinson, Plaxico Burress, Isaiah Trufant and Joe McKnight.
- No major injuries were reported from Sunday Night. Knock on wood.
More news is sure to come throughout the day as the Jets prepare to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.
