Marquette basketball adds another recruit to its 2013 class with JaJuan Johnson from Southwind High in Memphis, TN. The announcement of Johnson’s verbal commitment was made on Friday.

JaJuan Johnson is 6-foot-5 and is ranked 69 in the Top 100 recruits on CBSSports.com. He is very long and athletic and able to shoot 3-pointers consistently. Johnson broke out during Boo Williams EYBL summer camp by showing off his diverse set of skills.

So far the 2013 recruiting class consists of Johnson, Duane Wilson, and Deonte Burton along with junior college transfer Jameel McKay.

Marquette Gets Verbal Commit from Jameel McKay

Jameel McKay from Indian Hills Junior College has made a verbal commitment to join the Marquette Golden Eagles for the 2013-2014 season.

McKay is a Milwaukee native who attended Pulaski High School. As a high school senior, Jameel was named City Conference player of the year and a first-team Division 1 all-state selection by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association. At Indian Hills, he averaged 14.6 points and 7.7 rebounds and shot 62% from the floor.

McKay joins Milwaukee natives Deonte Burton (Vincent High School) and Duane Wilson (Dominican High School) in Marquette’s 2013 class.

Marquette Recruit Durley Granted Release

Marquette announced yesterday that Aaron Durley of Fort Bend Bush High School in Texas was granted a release from his national letter of intent.

Coach Buzz Williams said this in a statement released from the school, “It has been a privilege and pleasure building a relationship with Aaron and his family. We wish Aaron the absolute best in his future academic and athletic career.”

With the release of Durley, Marquette now has a scholarship freed up. Speculation is that Marquette will go after Arizona State guard Trent Lockett who is leaving the school to be closer to his ailing mother in Minnesota.

Currently Marquette’s incoming recruits are 6-4 Jamal Ferguson of Maury High School in Norfolk, Va., 6-3 T.J. Taylor of Paris Junior College in Texas and 6-7 Steve Taylor of Simeon High School in Chicago.

It will be interesting to see who they recruit to fill Durley’s spot on the roster.
