Marquette Comes Back to Beat DePaul

Marquette’s late run in the first half sparked a victory over DePaul Monday night. I must admit, I almost turned this game off in the first half because the team looked absolutely terrible then they went on an 11-2 run to make it a three point game. Whatever Coach Buzz said to them in the locker room must have been absolutely inspirational because those boys looked like a completely different team in the second half and led them to defeat DePaul 89-76.

Darius Johnson-Odom had 23 points on the night including the three pointer that tied the game at the start of the second half. Jamil Wilson had 18 points and nine rebounds. Davante Gardner is still out with a sprained knee. No word on will he will return.

DePaul’s Cleveland Morgan scored 22 points on the evening and Jamee Crockett added 17 points. Forward Moses Morgan sustained a concussion during the game while trying to guard Darius Johnson-Odom.

On a non-related game note, Ozzie Guillen and his sons watched the game from court-side seats.

Marquette will face Cincinnati on Saturday for National Marquette Day. Tip-off is at 2 pm CST at the Bradley Center.

Maquette Takes on DePaul

Buzz WilliamsThe Marquette Golden Eagles travel to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons. This will be the 111th meeting for these teams. Marquette leads the series 66-44.

Marquette is coming off a dismal showing at Notre Dame. Let’s hope the Golden Eagles can bounce back tonight. The Irish held the Golden Eagles to an under 40 percent shooting from the field. Darius Johnson-Odom was held to just 12 points during this game. He usually averages around 18 points per game. Jae Crowder was held to just four points on the evening. These two are the leading scorers for the Golden Eagles. They need to be effective against DePaul in order for the Golden Eagles to win.

DePaul is also coming off a loss to Cincinnati. Cleveland Melvin had 18 points on the night but the Blue Demons as a whole turned the ball over 18 times during that game.

Road games in the Big East are tough no matter who the team is. Tip-off is at 8 pm CST on ESPNU.
