The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 72-64, on National Marquette Day and Senior Day. This was also their 25th home win. This pretty much sums up my feelings for the game.
Here are highlights for Senior Day and seniors Junior Cadougan and Trent Lockett.
The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 67-46 yesterday to stay on top in the Big East conference.
The first half of the game was rather show cased a rather lack luster performance from Marquette as they went into the half with a tie. The Golden Eagles went on a 17-0 run in the first six minutes of the second half. their size advantage over Seton Hall definitely helped.
Here are head coach Buzz Williams’ thoughts on the second half:
“When you’re on the road in late February, you need everyone to muster up the juice. You need the players, the coaches, the trainers, the managers, everyone. We were really good defensively in the second half and we were much more consistent offensively in the second half.”
Vander Blue scored 19 points in the game and Davante Gardener contributed 18 points.
The Marquette Golden Eagles upset no. 16 Pittsburgh Panthers for the second time this season, 79-69. You can see highlights from the game below along with the 10th anniversary video of the 2003 Final Four team.
The Marquette Golden Eagles fell to the Georgetown Hoyas 63-55 last night. This loss knocked Marquette out of the top spot in the Big East.
Jamil Wilson scored 13 points in the game and Chris Otule scored 14 points and had 3 blocks.
The turning point of the game was when Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams was called for a technical foul in the second half. He was disputing a call that could have gone in favor of either team. Georgetown’s Otto Porter made both free throws then a floater to make the lead 41-34.
Marquette had 12 first half turnovers and no offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes. This was a big factor in the loss to Georgetown.
The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the Providence Friars on Saturday night 81-71. Everything was pretty normal until the second half when the game was delayed because there was a bat in the arena. The bat dive bombed players, coaches, and fans. At one point, officials ordered the lights turned out to calm the bat down. You can see videos below.
The Marquette Golden Eagles beat the Seton Hall Pirates 69-62 at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night. This was the sixth straight win for Marquette.
Davante Gardner had a game high of 17 points and five rebounds while Todd Mayo had 12 points and Vander Blue scored 11.
Marquette’s head coach Buzz Williams said this about the game,
“I think our guys are much more aware of time, score and momentum now. I think we have been really good at playing to the scouting report over the last four games.”
Marquette opened the game against Seton Hall with the lead and went to the half with a 26-16 lead. In the second half, Marquette let the Pirates back in. With just over four minutes into the second half, the Pirate’s Haralds Karlis got them within four points to make it 28-24. Seton Hall made the score 40-39 with two free throws from Karlis but Marquette couldn’t be stopped and beat the Pirates 69-62.
Marquette travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats this Saturday at 6 pm on ESPNU.
Well, Marquette had another over time thriller against the Pittsburgh Panthers, 74-67. Marquette remains unbeaten in Big East play.
Vander Blue had 22 points in the game while Davante Gardner added 13 points. Jamil Wilson had 11 points and five rebounds and Todd Mayo scored 10 points.
Marquette did not trail in the game’s final 28 minutes. Pitt’s Lamar Patterson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Golden Eagles then took control and pulled ahead of the Panthers to win in the five minute overtime.
Marquette takes on the Seton Hall Pirates on Wednesday.
Marquette beat Georgetown by just one point to win their second Big East game of the season, 49-48.
The first part of the game saw great defense from both teams but also scoring inconsistency. The Golden Eagles misses 11 of its first 13 shots and the Hoyas missed 10 of their first 12 shots.
In the last minutes of the game, Marquette was leading 49-46 when Trent Lockett fouled Georgetown’s Greg Whittington at the three point line. Whittington made his first two free throws then Marquette’s coach Buzz Williams called a time out. Whittington missed the third free throw for Marquette to stay ahead 49-48 and that’s how the game would end.
Marquette will take on Pittsburgh next Saturday at 11 am CST.
Marquette wins their first Big East game of the season against UConn. It was definitely an exciting game especially when Junior Cadougan hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime.
The Golden Eagles were without head coach Buzz Williams who was serving a one game suspension. Assistant coach Brad Autry filled in for the head coach. Coach Williams will return on Sunday for the game against Georgetown.
Davante Gardner scored 18 points and Vander Blue scored 13 points for the Golden Eagles.
Marquette went into half time with a 30-27 lead over the Huskies. The Golden Eagles went on a 12-4 run to go up 52-42 but UConn would not stay away. Junior guard Shabazz Napier went on an 11 point run to tie the game at 57 with just over seven minutes left on the clock. The lead would change several times before Junior Cadougan hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
In over time, Vander Blue made a 3-pointer with just under two minutes to put the Golden Eagles up 74-72 then Jamil Wilson made a layup to put them up 76-72 with 47 seconds left on the clock. The Marquette defense went to work and held off the Huskies for the win.
Marquette takes on Georgetown on Saturday at 1 pm.
