Big East Commissioner John Marinatto resigned on Monday. He admitted he was drained from the high-profile defections from the conference and pressure from upset schools about these departures.
Marinatto said in a statement, “I’ve been running a marathon not only for the last eight months but for the last 2½ years. As fulfilling as it can be, it is equally draining. All the assets are in place right now (in the Big East). It’s probably time for a commercialized kind of perspective. Clearly the collegiate model is dead.”
Joseph Bailey III, former Miami Dolphins CEO, will take over as the interim commissioner until a permanent replacement can be found.
