Patriots Open Camp

We’ve been waiting since February 5th for today.

Today, we put that gut-wrenching Super Bowl loss behind us and begin again.

Today, Patriots training camp opens.

New beginnings are always a positive. While the team has been together going through organized team activities throughout the spring and summer, training camp is different. It’s where players dig in their heels and really work. Whatever this year’s squad is going to look like will come into focus from here on out. This is the biggest first step towards a new season.

Needless to say, it’s kind of exciting.

But of course, it wouldn’t be the Patriots if there wasn’t at least a touch of drama. Last night, the team announced they released running back Joseph Addai, arguably the only real veteran they had at the position. Now, Danny Woodhead leads a group that includes Shane Vereen, Stephan Ridley and undrafted rookie Brandon Bolden.

They have another veteran missing from their ranks as well. Guard Brian Waters did not report to camp and was not willing to discuss the details as to why when contacted by the Boston Globe. I have a feeling the question will be posed to Bill Belichick at his 1 P.M. press conference, but per usual, I expect the Hoodie will be in mid-season form in evasive maneuvers.

So without further ado, here’s to the first step into what could be a huge 2012 season for the New England Patriots.

Oh, P.S…really, Wes Welker is hawking hair replacement surgery? Honestly? Couldn’t get an endorsement anywhere? There’s no judgment, of course. A guy’s gotta do what he’s gotta do. But to be the face of hair plugs? Whyyyyy?
