Major League Soccer

DC United saw their playoff dreams crushed last night as they tied with Portland Timbers, 1-1. The Timbers playoff hopes are still alive and depend on the Philadelphia Union beating New York Red Bulls tonight.

It’s that time again! Major League Soccer will add its 19th team next season, Montreal Impact, and will hold it’s expansion draft Nov. 23. The new team will chose 10 players and current MLS teams can protect 11 players from being selected.

D.C. United and former USMNT international Charlie Davies is stirring up a lot of talk. It was announced this week that Davies is suing the night club that served drinks to him, the driver and other passengers involved in a car crash in 2009 that left Davies severely injured and a woman dead.

English Premier League

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez told reporters what he thought about the calls to abolish the league’s regulation system. The league should be open to new ideas, he said, but slammed the suggestion.

One of the most heated and intense rivalries in EPL will take place this weekend. Manchester City and Manchester United will kick off Sunday in what is promised to be just as intense as the clubs are one and two in the league currently.

Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou claims he’s happy at Stamford Bridge, but at the same time said he’s ready to find a team he could start for. Kalou has had 99 appearances as a substitute for the Blues.

La Liga

Frenchman and FC Barcelona full back Eric Abidal’s contract is coming up with the Spanish giants. Reports in Spain claim Ligue 1′s Paris Saint-Germain and Italian powerhouse AC Milan are looking to sign the 32-year-old.

Real Madrid fans may be touting their team’s prowess, but head coach Jose Mourinho is keeping a cool head about the team’s current successes.

Serie A

The race for the top of the Serie A table is a little close. The current gap between the top team and the club in 14th place is only four points after six matches.

Inter Milan have been attempting to sign Porto’s Hulk, (yup that is his name) but the 25-year-old Brazilian says he’s happy with his Portuguese club. However, the player’s manager claims anything is possible.

Champion’s League

Aaron Ramsey saved Arsenal from another goalless encounter. The Gunners defeated Marseille in CL action Wednesday, 1-0.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was praising Andres Iniesta, who was pivotal in Barca’s CL win yesterday. Barcelona took on Viktoria Plzen and had a comfortable 2-0 win.

U.S. Women’s National Team

U.S Soccer announced today the draw for the CONCACAF 2012 Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament will be held Monday in Vancouver. The tournament is scheduled for January in Vancouver as well.
