The Bears In A Taylor Swift Song?

This may sound strange, but the Bears’ season thus far can be summed up by a Taylor Swift song (well, a slightly modified version).   The 21-year old country music superstar does not write about professional football teams, rather she pours emotions of love, sorrow, and revenge into her songs.  The Bears may not have experienced the kind of ups and downs in their love lives that she refers to in her music, but their play on the field this year has had its share of turbulence.

Taylor Swift, much like Devin Hester, recently added to her enormous collection of awards, being named 2011 CMA Entertainer of the Year.  She premiered her new single “Ours” on the CMA awards show, and I was inspired to write a Bears parody of the song (The real version with lyrics can be found here):

“Ours” (Bears parody)

Fresh cut grass and Sunday morning air
Hopes held high that a win awaits the Bears
If you were here, we’d cheer like it’s the Super Bowl
But right now, that’s a lofty goal

Seems like the experts always pick us to fail
They judge us by our tendency to derail
And the score predictions favor the other team
They upset the fans, but I still dream

So don’t you worry your Bear-crazed mind
People throw rocks at teams that shine
And analysts make winning look hard
The stakes are high, the field’s rough
But this game is ours

You never know what Cutler has up his sleeve
Picks from years past gonna discourage me
Throwing up the ball with no receivers near
But it’s okay ‘cause Forte is here

And I’ll say
Don’t you worry your Bear-crazed mind
People throw rocks at teams that shine
And analysts make winning look hard
The stakes are high, the field’s rough
But this game is ours

And it’s not fair to hate on us
If we’re unsteady and
Our defense is rough
And they can be deadly and
We’ll fight their doubt and win their praise
With a win next week

‘Cause I love the way that Hester flies
And I love the shoes that earn Bennett fines
And any ridicule from others about how we play will be ignored
‘Cause I know we’ll soar

So don’t you worry your Bear-crazed mind
People throw rocks at teams that shine
And analysts make winning look hard
Don’t you worry your Bear-crazed mind
People throw rocks at teams that shine
But they can’t break what’s ours
They can’t break what’s ours

The stakes are high, the field’s rough
But this game is ours

Please note that I am in no way a songwriter.  This was purely for my own enjoyment, but I thought I would share it.  Hope you liked my spin on the song!
