A few news items that have come out the past few days:
- The Orioles signed reliever David Riske to a Minor League deal a few days ago, which school has prevented me from writing about until now. Over his eleven-year career in the Majors, which was mostly spent in the American League until he joined the Brewers in 2008, Riske has gone 20-20 with 22 saves and a 3.67 ERA, which isn’t too shabby. The move will provide more organizational depth, which is clearly the point.
- Yesterday, it was announced that the Orioles are returning their radio broadcasts to 1090 WBAL, so make sure you’ve got your radio tuned correctly! The new deal ends a five-year arrangement with 105.7 The Fan.
- Jason Berken won the Super Bowl.
- My hero Brittany Ghiroli’s inbox post today had a few minor league discussions in it, which always catches my eye. Worth a read, especially the bit about Josh Bell.
Of special note is that Matt Angle, my current favorite prospect in the organization, was mentioned in that inbox, as well. He’s an up-and-coming outfielder, ensuring that if something happened to go wrong with Pie and Reimold he’d be there to back things up, as he was placed on the 40-man this winter. I’ll discuss him in length once it’s time for my prospect previews in March.
Spring Training is just around the corner! Hang in there, everyone! We’ve almost made it!
