Pittsburgh Steelers football is almost here!
While the meaningful games don’t start until September, it sure is nice to have Steelers football to look forward to.
Tonight will be Steeler Nation’s first look at a different Pittsburgh Steelers team. Gone are the likes of James Harrison, Mike Wallace, Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich, Rashard Mendenhall, and Keenan Lewis. Heath Miller is still out, recovering from an ACL injury suffered at the end of last season. His replacement, Matt Spaeth, is also out with a Lisfranc injury in his foot.
All eyes seem to be on rookie running back Le’Veon Bell who has had a chance to practice with the first team offense. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley likes what he sees from the rookie.
“If you have a big dog who holds up and can play, that’s the way you really like to do it,” Haley said.
Bell, for his part, is pretty excited for his first chance to represent the Black and Gold.
“I can’t wait. It will be my first game dressed as a Pittsburgh Steeler, my debut in the NFL. So, I actually get to show everybody in the world what I’m capable of doing. And I’m so excited for it.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the New York Giants tonight at Heinz Field at 7:30.
