Cleveland Browns on Aerys: Dawg Treats

The Pittsburgh Steelers wrap up a disappointing 2012 season by taking on the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field. The Steelers will hope to end the season on a high note despite the absence of Ike TaylorMike Wallace, and team MVP Heath Miller. All three are injured and will finish the season on Injured Reserve.

The Black and Gold will take on a Browns team that in all likelihood will be playing to keep their jobs. With an offseason to mull things over, the new owner of the Cleveland Browns may look to make some personnel changes.

No job is safe on the Steelers side of the ball either. The Steelers made waves this past offseason by cutting veterans such as James Farrior and Hines Ward to make room under the salary cap. Between the salary cap and the lackluster season, the Rooneys may be looking to make changes of their own.

The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in a must-win game. In a season filled with many must-win games, the Steelers have come up short more than once.

Which is why they are fighting for a sixth seed spot instead of the AFC North.

This game won’t be easy for the Steelers. The Cincinnati Bengals are the current sixth seed and are looking to make a return trip to the playoffs. Andy Dalton and A.J. Green  will most certainly attempt to pick on a young secondary and a defense that is unable to get off the field on third down.

The Jekyll and Hyde Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. I’m not sure which Steelers team traveled to Dallas, but I hope it’s the one  that’s focused, mentally prepared, and ready to play the Cowboys.

San Diego Chargers on Aeyrs: Nuts & Bolts

Ben Roethlisberger makes his return for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Huzzah! He’s back just in time to take on Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers are in the middle of a four game losing streak, two of which to AFC North opponents. Before Steeler Nation gets overly confident with the return of Big Ben, it’s good to remember that this is a Steelers team that lost to the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans while Big Ben was under center.

Charlie Batch and the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in yet another AFC North mach-up. The Browns may be a 2-8 team, but they are not to be taken lightly. The Steelers have had more than their fair share of issues with teams with losing records this season. Two of their loses came to the Oakland Raiders and Tennesee Titans, and the Steelers have looked less than impressive against the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs. With this being a divisional match-up, it could be another one of those ugly close games that the Steelers are all too familiar with this season.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Steelers need to avoid the trap game. The Steelers are coming of a huge win against the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants last week and have a date with their arch nemesis Baltimore Ravens next week. Sandwiched in between? Kansas City and their 1-7 record.

The Steelers have had their issues with teams they are supposed to beat this season (see the Raiders and Titans). The Steelers have also managed to look less than awesome in primetime games this season as well. Chances are high that this game will be far more interesting than it needs to be.

Forget Manning/Brady. One of the best quarterback “rivalries” in the NFL is one of the rarest: Manning/Roethlisberger. Both quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the 2004 draft. Both quarterbacks have two Super Bowl rings. However, thanks to the NFL’s scheduling methods, they only manage to face each other once every presidential election cycle.

Coming into the game, Ben Roethlisberger may have more to prove. While Roethlisberger seems to thrive under new O.C. Todd Haley’s offense, that hasn’t necessarily translated into wins. The Steelers lost late leads to the Denver and Oakland, and their only road win has come in Cincinnati.

To say that they will be tested by the defending Super Bowl champs is a bit of an understatement.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally see some AFC North action as they head into Bengalland to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite having 10 days off since the disaster of a game in Tennessee, the Steelers are still banged up a bit. The Steelers will be without Troy PolamaluMarcus GilbertRashard Mendenhall, and Isaac Redman. At least LaMarr Woodley seems like he’ll be back, so that’s something.

For their part, the Bengals have hit a bit of a rough spot. They are coming off losses to the Dolphins and Browns and look to redeem themselves against the Steelers. The Bengals didn’t fare too well in their only primetime appearance thus far this season. Of course, the Steelers have looked foolish in both of their primetime games, so someone will have to break this battle of wills and actually win this game.

Or they will tie, in which case, we all lose.

What is with the scheduling this year? The Steelers had the early bye in Week 4, and now have a short week in a Thursday night game in Week 6. This short week means that the Steelers will be without Troy Polamalu and LaMarr Woodley, who both left Sunday’s game with injuries.

Philadelphia Eagles on Aerys: Cheesesteak Report

The Steelers return to football action this week to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. Also returning to action will be Troy PolamaluJames Harrison, and Rashard Mendenhall. Coincidentally enough, the Steelers have been pretty lackluster in the running game and on defense without these players, hence the 1-2 start. So, no pressure or anything.
