Emily Miklasevich: Senior Pittsburgh Steelers Reporter

One of my earliest memories was sitting on my dad’s lap as he was watching football on TV. I remember him telling me that he was cheering for the team that was wearing yellow pants. Since my dad liked the team with the yellow pants, I decided that I would like the team with yellow pants too. There was a brief rebellion period where I didn’t like the Steelers, but that dark time was brief and I returned to Steeler Nation with open arms.

My dad, a Pittsburgh-area native, has influenced my love of sports. There is a definite Pennsylvania/Pittsburgh feel to my favorite teams as I love the Pittsburgh Penguins and Penn State Nittany Lions in addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite my dad’s best efforts, I wound up as a Cubs fan instead of a Pirates fan. But I consider Jay Bell and Andy Van Slyke to be my favorite players from when I was little and I will still cheer for the Pirates.

Currently I am wrapping up my second go-round of college and will have a degree in accounting  in June.

I’m a fourth-year student at the University of Cincinnati majoring in journalism with a minor in English. Sports are my passion and my life, and I aspire to one day be a high school soccer coach. I’d rather watch football than go shopping, wear tennis shoes than heels, and I’m most comfortable wearing shinguards and cleats. My interests lie within the spheres of mostly male-dominated arenas: contact sports, muscle cars, and rock music. I’ve been told more times than I can count that I’m “one of the guys” and usually I’m okay with that. I’m stubborn, opinionated, and outspoken. I love words, and I use them to my advantage whenever possible. I’ll stand up for what I think is right, no matter what and I give respect where respect is earned. I value true fandom, loyalty, and intelligence. I’m competitive; I HATE to lose. At anything. I’ve participated in a myriad of activities in my life, including sports, music, and writing. I like to be busy, I have a short attention span, and I have a weird sense of humor. After college, I hope to get my master’s in secondary education from either Northwestern or Penn State.

I’m a born and raised football fanatic. I bleed black and gold for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but I also love me some Chicago Bears. Jerome Bettis is one of my all-time favorite athletes, but Heath Miller is my boy. I’ve played soccer since age 3, and I am a fan of the Columbus Crew, the University of North Carolina Tarheel women’s soccer team, and the USA and Brazil national teams. However, if I come across any soccer game, chances are I’ll watch it, no matter who is playing. Hockey? Pittsburgh Penguins, all the way. I’m not a huge NBA fan, but when I watch, I root for the Chicago Bulls. My current favorite NBA player, however, is Deron Williams, who was recently traded to the New Jersey Nets. Baseball, in my opinion, is only fun to watch in person, and I rep the St. Louis Cardinals. As far as the NCAA is concerned, that’s easy. I’m a Bearcat through and through, no matter what. However, I also support the University of Illinois Fighting Illini in basketball and the Penn State Nittany Lions in football.
